But who knows what the new owners will do... Look back at the OP and do the math; it doesn't look good for forums.

Haven't heard anything from Kev about this. I would like to hear his thoughts on the matter.

I doubt he or any of the VerticalScope forum former owners know anything. Or that anyone at VS knows. That'll come at some point after the sale is finalized. I worked for a company that sold twice during my time there. One new owner made changes right out of the gate, the other waited a year.

There are too many good TLDs available to just rehash an old name...

I've been here 9 years. I'm a very loyal person so i'll stick it out until the end but I will be honest, I have already checked out a few forums and we'll see what happens.

Pretty huge discrepancy in those millions and not in a good way for VerticalScope and its forums.

If the new owners decide they don't want to fool with forums, I wonder if we'll have a warning?

Worried about that since a forum I was on with a lot of activity (not VerticalScope owned and nothing to do with survival related topics) closed in 2018. The forum owners did, thankfully, announce a few months in advance that they were ditching the forum so members had a chance to save info though transferring threads to other sites was prohibited. But now the forum is gone ...no archives, just a notice when you enter the link stating: On April 5, 2018, Low Carb Friends' management announced that LCF's forums would be permanently shut down on Friday, June 1, 2018. That's all there is left of what was a very active forum. Because of the warning in advance of the forum closure, at least we were able to save recipes etc., but the forum owners could've deleted everything without the courtesy of advanced notice.

Lets be realistic. The "business model" that would lead you to pay real $ for any BB/public form (or giggle) is silly. A free service that you are going to "monetize" by selling data on users to advertisers who think their popup ads clicks is going to be profitable to them. That really sound like it is real.

Giggle, for example, is proof that if the lie is big enough that it becomes real because it is believed. WHO hear has clicked on out of their stupid thinks and PURCHASED it (took profit to the advertiser). Few/NO ONE yet business throws billions of $ at the scams every year. SB a small bit of the same drivel. (I have not been to giggle for years, will no support their marxist prog nonsense and invasion of privacy/mining)

I signed up for a subscription, so they've gotten some money from me. That of course depends on the forum being useful for me a survival tool that pays me back for the investment. Paying for political arguments and trolling... not so tempting.

In light of the deafening silence from the top
A thread on other forum options makes sense

I too paid money
Then learned that the forum had been previously sold

Now a second sale to an anti-Second Amendment entity makes me wanting to have some options

It would be nice to export all the members to a single place
Archived threads are dated, by definition so I see close to zero loss there

I worked at archive.org for a few years (until 2008) and can tell you what was true then.

Site owners can put a "robots.txt" file on their website which requests web crawlers to not crawl parts or all of a site. For instance:

https://www.whitehouse.gov/robots.txt

(There isn't a robots.txt for survivalistboards currently)

Before archive.org's wayback-machine serves up an archived page, it checks the site's current robots.txt to see if the live page is marked off-limits. If it is thus marked, archive.org will refuse to serve up the archived page.

So if the site owners wanted to, they could put up a robots.txt which renders all of archive.org's archived survivalistboards pages inaccessible. When content owners call archive.org's front desk wanting them to "take down" archived pages, making a robots.txt is the method the front desk recommends.

archive.org still has those archived pages, and if/when the site disappears or the robots.txt changes or disappears, the archived pages become available again.

If a content owner insists, archive.org will also actually remove pages from the wayback machine's index. That was pretty rare, though. Most site owners opted for using robots.txt.

This isn't the intended purpose of robots.txt (it's supposed to stop crawlers from accessing pages in the first place), but archive.org is using it this way to give site owners control over how their archived content may be accessed, and so that when sites disappear their content will be available (which was the original idea behind the web archive).

If you knew how little input we receive from the current owners you would suspect Kev is just as informed as the rest of us.... they are VERY hands off on this forum as far as management goes.

That may be. As he made plain when he sold the site, he is still vested in it. I suspect he at least knows there is something afoot and has an opinion. I want to say it was brought out he still has a financial stake here so that furthers my thought he might know a rumor or whisper. Maybe that is not correct, please note I am not certain about that as it was several years ago the dust up happened.

BTW, he was pretty quiet about the first sale and was blantantly confronted with it before addressing it, iirc.

I'm down to this forum. If it goes then I'll be mostly offline. I fear for my country's fate. I fully intend to die on my feet with my boots on, not on my knees at the alter of the NWO/SWAMP or with the knee of the jack booted thugs chocking out my life.

I'll continue to pray for everyone not on my iggy list.

The person you quoted will not be replying, it was the 3rd account by a multi account troll that has earned a lifetime ban. 3 times now.

Might have to start looking into having a chat with his ISP.

Wow, was just thinking this AM "How can 2020 become even more of a suckfest?"

Hope I'm wrong, but this would add to it. Thanks for the heads-up, allye.
