Default Police Boats

After reading the thread about Police planting evidence in a vehicle,...and reading the responses...I want to run this by all.

The OKCPD...in Oklahoma City....have just taken possession of thier new Police boats. To replace their two remaining Boston Whaler's....which if memory serves are approaching 20+ years in service. The BWs came with the hardtop T-top..with the lightbar....a 150 merc...caged by a towbar...and a dive door on port side.

The lake I have used for thirty years....25 of which I kept a sailboat in a wet slip. With the Police boat covered wet slips(three)...only about 30 yards from mine.
The Police had a station at the lake with a garage capable of parking the BW on its trailer indoors.

In addition the PTB, also purchased two "Hydro-hoists"...to allow the new boats to be kept in their wet slips...but lifted out of the water.

This is where I started asking questions.

The new boats....are....Pro Line Sport 26...offshore fishing boats. I happened to be at the lake when the first boat was brought out...and I was not impressed.
The new boat has the hardtop T-top....with a console with room for a head....and it has a high freeboard...with out a dive door, and will be equipped with radar..for a lake only two miles across..It has come to light....that the new boats only have two inches of clearance(without the radar) between the hard top and the steel overhead of the slip....and the new boats can not use the hydro-hoists because of the low overhead

When I exchanged emails with the Maj of the division about the radrar....his response...."the radars are for finding "bobbing bodies after dark"

And the wet boat slips for the boats will have to be rebuilt for the radar to clear the overhead.
All this is from a Police officer buying the boats....who has NO boating experience....at best guess....from my own research... is nearing a half million dollars on three boats....which they can not use till slips are rebuilt. Asking why the Police just simply did not replace the aged Boston Whalers....with new....gets NO response from the City

I have thousands of dollars invested in my electronics and still canít catch fish. Maybe they will come in handy for bobbing bodies?

My concern is that someone in the Police dept and or city management is spending tax payer money.....a lot of it.... buying equipment that makes the task of rendering aide/rescue more difficult....and I smell a coverup...based on emails I receive from a Major
and his insistence that radar can tell the difference between a human head and a goose...in the dark of night....

They bought that stuff because some salesman convinced them it was what they needed. They didn't look at the secondary and tertiary effects until after they signed the contract for the boats. Or they were at the end of the fiscal and had to spend the budget to ensure they got a good budget the next year.

Not everything involves the tin foil hats.

You may be right....but it does not provide the Police with better equipment....that I wholeheartedly support....

The person that does the shopping for them, might not be the brightest amongst them... Sometimes its a hey-you type detail that nobody wants.

Or maybe its time for the tin-foil hat... the question that comes to mind is: can you do anything about it?

This is what I believe is the base...a Capt was responsible for the new boats...and I have learned...he has never owned a boat....has zero experience using the Boston Whalers currently in use....

if you think about it this is the peak of irony last I heard overholser and hefner are no wake zones last I heard.
ever since they developed the white water course on the river, the city has been angling for the Olympics. new over amped boats may be window dressing.
OHP is the law enforcement that handles recovery, fire departments handle rescue recovery.

They should have just repowered the whalers. Those things will live a long time on freshwater. Wrong person tasked with spending money and shopping=wasted tax dollars

Sounds to me like cops spending "FREE" Fed grant $. They went to a Cop tradeshow with the checkbook the grant fairy gave them. If you check around there is ZERO chance this is the only moron money they spent.

OHP covers the state lakes...OKCPD covers the three city lakes.....and the fire dept covers loss of life searches on the city lakes....never see the OKCFD doing a boat tow in....
