Default Poll: The Great Religious Discussion Subforum Religious Poll of Religion

So, there's been some hullabaloo lately over beliefs and worldviews and religions here.

I thought it would be interesting to catagorize things here. I'm trying to keep things broad, but maintainable based on some assumptions about the board here (majority of western and American members, a lot of branches from the Christian tree, combining Indian religions, etc). I could only post ten choices, so forgive some of the broader options. I've done the best I can.

Feel free to share specifically what you consider yourself to be in the thread.

However, let's keep the debate to a minimum. Questions are fine; arguments are not.

Is there supposed to be a poll somewhere?

Took me a while to sort out and solidify the options on the poll.

As I mentioned in the OP, I had to make some tough choices. Based on my best guess as to the population of the board, I kept a large number of Christian groups up, but as a result choice to solidify some others:

I grouped Orthodox and Roman Catholics together.
Pagans, Neopagans, Wiccans, and New Agers together.
All the many very different Eastern Religions together.
Athiests, Agnostics, and Diests together.

Sorry about that; not real happy, but I think there are more Christians on the board than these other groups, so the divisions were needed.

No, actually, I am quite curious in those doctrinal affiliations and worldviews.

But, I'm one to argue semantics.

I started out Wiccan, then more Druid and now more Buddhist. At heart, I'm a
Buddhist Druid. :-)

I voted: Christian: Roman Catholic or Orthodox. More correctly, I am a Latin Rite Catholic. The Catholic Church also includes 22 autonomous Eastern Rite or Eastern Catholic Churches.

As a religion I used to be Christian

Because of my new walk with Yah I don't feel that a family is a religion.

I know i know most people will say what's in a name. God/Yahweh Elohim, Christ/Messiah, Jesus/Yahushua, potaoe/potato tomatoe/tomato......I just don't see it that way anymore. "To me" those things amongst OTHER things as well coming to light, makes a difference.

Which entails a whole set of specific moral and metaphysical claims, which by definition is religion. So, even though you feel that because of your "new walk with Yah I don't feel that a family is a religion," it's still religious by definition.

It's like taking a photo in black and white, then taking umbrage when a person tells you it's a nice monochrome shot, because it ain't monochrome, it's black and white.

Actually no. When Yah says to stand upright and walk with him and picks up the one who prostrates in front of him......leaves no room for religion. Root word for Religion is Latin and it means to bind/bondage. Which is exactly what he sets us free from.

I am: a non-demon Christian Fundamentalist [which makes me 'Protestant']

We hold a very high regard for Messianic Jews and Mormons, and really we agree a lot with classical Deism [ie, pre-Payne]. We share some of the beliefs of these groups.

One congregation of my group has a website calling themselves: 'Biblical Unitarian's.

We worship one Deity and we speak-in-tongues.
