Default Did the riots change your gun planning prepping?

Just wondering if seeing all the chaos in the cities made any of you rethink your gun strategy? If you watch youtube videos of the looting and riots you will maybe understand better why I ask this question.

Are you going to get any more guns? Change calibers?

Are you going to have ready a ton of ammunition ready to go in magazines, in case of having to take on huge groups of armed rioters?

Anything to defend your property or business from hundreds of looters and roving bands of criminals?

It may not be long before they are burning entire neighborhoods down. We also learn that the police can't do anything about it either, they will not protect you if there is a mass riot.

We live in the sticks well outside a small town. Not likely to encounter any large numbers. Loaded all the mags for my ar15 pistol, as well as have mags already loaded for my ar10.

You guys living in the country have it easy. The people who live in or near big cities will have to reconsider their strategy.

What will happen is you may scare away a few people but they will be coming back with reinforcements. I think I saw this in a video of store owners defending their property. They may scare an initial attack away, but the attackers come back with overwhelming force.

That means you may be in a shootout against large groups of people and you will need a crap load of ammo at that point. You are probably going to die at that point but at least you will go down shooting.

I see the need for lots of ammunition loaded in magazines, so you can at least put lots of firepower into the attackers. The worst thing will be to run out of ammunition.

I shifted my first choice of arms to my shotguns. For the past 35 years I've lived in the rural country, now the past 2 years I'm in the city. There was an officer involved shooting 3 blocks from my home a few months ago,1 suspect shot,2 suspects ran. My first instinct was my rifle until I considered my neighbors. Rifle bullets pass straight through bodies. I don't even answer the door with a pistol after dark anymore. It's my shotgun in my hand.

Something like this is perfect for the city. 80 rounds on tap and you can fit it in a backpack or briefcase with a few more magazines.

Other than that a G43x or G48 concealed and you should be good to go.

Real world tests show high velocity light weight rifle bullets meant to fragment go through far less walls or people than almost everything else.

a 16''-20'' AR15 shooting 55g m193 or HP ammo frags early in hard and soft tissue and stops early.

Nope, I had bought a new 870 combo the end of last year which filled the gap I had. From here on out it will just be whatever I run across that I decide I want.

I might pick up another AR upper maybe in 9mm just to have around and for if I want to put another AR together.

I've shot and killed countless deer and hogs with a .223 Remington shooting 70gr soft points. 90% of the time the bullets pass through. Real world test won't save my arse if a bullet passes through and kills or injured a innocent bystander. It's just my personal choice for the situation I'm in.

I have no doubts to what you are saying is true. I've shot 55 gr FMJs through 3/8 mild steel and 52 gr HP at 3000 plus that won't pass through a coyote.

The last thing I want to do is fire fmj during a home invasion.

hey City...looks like you're fairly new, so , first off..welcome.

second...folks on here don't believe in guns..and the ones that might have had any , I'm sure have lost em all in their boating accident.

ok..there...got all that out of the way.

honestly..many folks might leverage these harsh times as excuse to add a few more bullets or make that spend for something else we've wanted..but being this is mostly a prepper based forum.. I think you'll find that folks have guns in perspective..ie...food, location, medical...all sorts of important supplies, and skills...guns are just a part of a decent defense planning.

so the particular firearms(s) and enough ammo on hand...already taken care of long before the Covid and the riot zombies kicked in.

but for those who have never considered owning...then yeah, always good to see another good person arm up...again...welcome.

No changes needed here. I have seen something like this coming for a while now. I think it will get worse, maybe not this event, but soon.

I worked in downtown Austin yesterday and decided to load up my MP5K in my GHB. Austin hasn't been as bad as other places but we have a good bit of ANTIFA here.

Other than that, nothing has changed. I live far enough out of the city that I don't have to really worry.

Yep, I'm afraid an Eskimo will find his Big Igloo soon.

Yes, strongly leaning towards my AR over the Mossberg. More ammo, less overpenetration, and don't have 9 or more pellets I have to account for going who knows where down range. If I were more rural, I'd maybe stay with the shotgun.

Exclamation

Iíve been through numerous natural disasters of which some of my early memories are folks sitting in front of their store with a shotgun. I grew up in a neighborhood that we at certain times and under certain conditions patrolled.

Iíve seen a bit of what folks will get up to during these times. Rioting blacks were fairly common (small numbers of no more than a couple hundred) so folks were careful.

So no Iíve done no changes here!

Nope, but I did mow wearing my holster the other day. Never did that before living in a small town, thinking I was safe.

The chaos in the city just reinforced the wisdom of retiring at age 55, selling everything I owned in Southern California, and moving to a remote area.
I can not imagine ever living in a city again. I would not even trust a small town.
