Yes....so you wouldn't spend more....so it wouldn't stimulate anything.

The idea was to give people who lost income some money to survive on, and people who didn't extra money to spend, hopefully at the places that lost income.

Thats the idea. It a bad one...but that was the intention.

My take on it is that the money was to give folks something to do while self-isolatin'. All those bucks could be spent on take-out, QVC, Amazon or whatever to keep people from goin' stir crazy. Might not've been a good idea to set a precedent. Once you start a dot-gov program, the courts seem loathe to let it end. Next health emergency might be an outbreak of toenail bung among Congressional aides, mandatin' more "free" money from Uncle Sugar.

The money was a Hail Mary attempt.

if you watch the business channels you’ll hear that BS about a V or U shaped recovery is gone, now it’s a checkmark and by Aug they’ll be pondering monthly payments.

Its a /\ shaped recovery Im a Momentum Day Trader there's little to no faith in the Economy, it's well thought that the recent Stock Market rise from the bottom (Which outside of the S&P) is 50% at best, is mostly Shorts getting squeezed and is basically just range trades. Plus new Traders who were bored at home during COVID-19 opened accounts at record numbers and just randomly bought the Stock market up thinking they would all get rich. There's no financial basis to any of these companies or investments, more sell offs are coming the people who lost money in March are going to sell or shift assets while the "new" buyers will lose their money" Companies across the board suspended or decreased Dividends, and most of the companies rallying have no Dividends or Earnings, it's a Casino.

So I get this letter from the Money Network Cardholders aka The US Treasury Dept, with a stupid prepayed Visa debit card in it, marked Economic Impact Payment Card. Call the number, enter a PIN of my choice, and yes its my $2400.

But there is a catch. My bank is not set up to handle a EIPCard. So I can not transfer the ballance into my checking account. Small town and the only place that will accept a EIPCard is the Walmart Financial Center.

This makes a lot of ****ing sense, I ended up pulling $2400 in cash (minus the $12 of fees), just so I could drive back to the bank and deposit the cash, then write another ****ing check back to the IRS.

Thanks a lot you dirty, rotten, sheepherding, bastards.
complaining about free money seems a little petty.

I dont qualify for any stimulus money, so you are welcome.

I dont expect any free money from the govt, but I would be thankful even if I had to jump through a few hoops to get it.

Im against the govt giving out welfare, but if I qualify for something Im sure going to take it.

In the end I pay a lot in taxes so it would be just paying a little less in taxes.

Had he gotten an actual check, he could have deposited it in his bank. They put it on debit cards as a pork barrel payout to big businesses

Just got our stimulus payment yesterday. We weren't expecting one due to our income. But there it was in the mail in the form of a debit card. Less than the $2400 but still over 2k. My wife was kind of ****ed as the hoops to jump through stopped her dead from just investing it as she would have if it was a automatic deposit into the checking account. But after she really looked into the card uses, she decided she could use it to good use.

So a new lawn mower and new weed whacker; neither of which she will spend lots on as those are for occasional use. Maybe a new smaller chain saw also as hers is a heavy 20" one and she wants an inexpensive smaller one for light work that is easier to run around with. Then if she finds those okay and there is money left on the card, she'll get as many 4x4 8ft lumber for fence poles as she can. She keeps saying she needs 100 of those. I foresee a lot of changing out fencing this summer. But it did need to be done so that's that.

So that'll probably spend the majority of it. Little does she know that if she spends it all like that, I will buy a new firearm, likely another shotgun I've been really looking at. She is spending the card on horse related stuff so I reckon I get something also. That's only fair...

Find me a retired Republican who DOES NOT take his Social Security AKA Government Welfare. I'm sure there's a few out there, but c'mon let's be real it's not about Democrats or Republicans taking the money, because I don't care what political class you are 99% of people would take free cash if someone offered it on the streets ... the problem is the Government giving out the free money. Free money is free money.

By the way if anyone feels bad about their Stimulus Checks PM me, I'll give you my PayPal account you can send the money right over.

So you are bitching about getting $2400 from people who pay taxes or even more taxes then you do. Go back and rethink it.

I agree with Hicks. I too got the stupid VISA card and my bank will not cash it out and put it in my account. I have to drive about 30 miles to the next town over where that branch will do it (I hope) A check would have been just fine!

So you think being republican means you should pay in to a trust fund and not expect to get any payments back? So a true republican would post his checking account online, since he never had an expectation of getting it back?

I pay 8500 a year in SSA “contributions”, and my employer pays an equal amount. That 17,000 a year “earns”me a Payment of 27,000 if I retire at 62. No wonder the government exempted their own employees for years from “ contributing”.

Um, yea, I'm well aware. The op was complaining, nothing more. IMO that's the end of the story. Not a single post beyond that has enlightened or educated anyone about anything to do with FINANCE in a SURVIVAL situation. So stop with your childish BS.

Up-date on that debit card. My wife figured out how to get it cashed and deposited in the checking account. All done from home online. So that's a done deal. She'll still make the purchases but use our credit card which gives us a "cash back" check each year for purchases. We don't run a balance on that card paying it off each month. So now she's happy since the debit card was bugging her.
