Each infraction is worth points and these points accumulate until they expire.
The value of the point and time it takes to expire varies depending on the infraction.

If you accumulate enough points before they expire, your access becomes limited. You cant start threads, cant PM, and cant be thanked.

If you really step on it and get more points, you will automatically be banned for a time.

MODs also have the discretion to skip the points and go direct to ban if the situation warrants it.

Based on your infraction history, you're not that bad.... I've seen much worse

I suspect that n1d saw rd's latest board moniker.

ETA: Oops. It looks like rd couldn't take the hint and behave, and has been further downgraded to "This is a great survival forum."

Thanks for asking, I wondered that same thing. I usually am on my phone and do not see lines like that but when on the desk top there are all kinds of interesting items on the pages.

If I can ask a dumb one, are there many members without infractions?

I have no infractions (legit anyway - I still have an infraction history on my User CP from when a mod goofed and issued me an infraction meant for somebody else. It was overturned, but still a blemish...

I've had no infractions that I know of.

However, there's been a couple of members that were looking out for me.

Just one example...

Once I responded to a poster that went on a rant about the unmentionable subject. I figured I was OK to respond because the original poster was the one that "started it."

But, a long time member quickly PM'd me and nicely explained that I was just as guilty as the OP by responding. So I rapidly removed my post. Sure enough the original poster got some time out and the mods didn't mess with me at all.

I guess sometimes the members help each other out and give some good advice and guidance to the new guys. You all don't see it because it happens by PMs , but it does happen.

I wish I had been that lucky. I got a site generated warning for a reply to one of our political troll sthat had a reference to the unmentionable topic. My reply was germaine to the subject and an unintentional violation of the rules.
I would gladly have edited the post myself if I had realized it, but instead got mod edited and the warning.
I was told it was not an infraction and just a friendly reminder. I disagree because I have to imagine that a site generated warning PM is part of the record.
This is just a forum on the internet so in the big picture, it's really no big deal. But it irritated the heck out of me and kept me away for a short time.
I certainly get wrapped up in the political arguments sometimes but for the most part I actually try to be a positive contributor to the topics that this site is actually about. It bugs me to have a black mark on my history because I allowed myself to get tripped up by one of our obvious trolls who are only here to stir up controversy. And yet they thrive.

I broke the language rules once without knowing it. Kind of funny now. The person I was talking to got banned, permanently as far as I know later on so I still think he deserved it.

As far as I can remember I have gotten a couple of warnings but I haven't gotten an actual infraction but 1 never knows what might happen in the spur of the moment.

I have 3 pages of infractions, though I haven't gotten any in the past couple of years.

I once got an infraction for what a mod thought I was alluding, instead of what I was actually referring. He must of thought that he was a mind reader.
