Default Mounting glass on a MSR

Advertise Here

Tweaking my MSR with the Leupold mark ar 3-9x40. Looking for a AR scope mount that will offer a nice balance of weight, durability and cost. Currently have the Nikon m-223 one piece one inch mount. Itís pretty decent but I donít like that it must be slid onto the pic rail from one end. Makes it impossible to retain BUIS (and I strongly dislike angled offset sights).

Looking for something in the same range as the Nikon mount but where the pic mount actually opens to allow it to be dropped in place. Thumb screws are a plus but Iím probably priced out of the QD market.

That depends on how hung up you are on name brands.
I just ordered a Monstrum QR mount for $27. Iíve had a few Monstrum items, theyíve been solid. Hoping these are as well.

If you ARE a brand name guy, $100 will get you a Burris unit, if thatís enough.

Iíve also gotten Green Blob mounts...solid.

Vortex 2” tube mount:

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2420197402

$89 for 2” extension, $99 for 3” extension. Free shipping (ATM).

Note, they use torx screws. So, you could just keep the appropriate torx wrench on the rifle. Say inside the grip, as an example.

For standard nuts/slotted nuts (for a coin etc), nuts with holes (for an appropriately sized hex/tork/round/Allen wrench), you would still need to carry the appropriate tool/coin on the rifle.

So either carry the tool, go with quick release or go with offset BUS.

Edit, adding: if you all Amazon, might be able to save a few bucks as well. Aero precision, as an example, ~$72 for an ultralight 1” mount. Again tho, not quick release. Torx nut, like the vortex I mention above. Nice mounts, have a few.

You might also try Green Blobs quick release via Amazon. Dunno if they have a dedicated 1”, or just 30mm with inserts. If only inserts, I’d pass. Never tried there mounts, have some of there bipods. Decent.

While not true QD, these mounts are lightweight and solid. They come with the TORX tool to mount. They are removable and repeatable with same torque setting.

I have a Burris Fullfield II 2-7x attached to one of my ARs with one of the Aero Ultralight mounts. I love it.

Best deal I've found is the LaRue LT204 (~$140):

https://www.larue.com/products/lt204/

I love optics and have quality ones, but I still prefer a QD mount and BUIS. Most QD mounts (quality ones) will cost you, LaRue offers a great deal and very functional/return to zero QD mount. It's a little hassle setting this version up, but it's a solid platform.

I wouldn't pay $140 for a QD mount....but if I did LaRue would be at the top of the list.

I have three of their triggers. Utterly ridiculously good, and priced well under most "quality" triggers.
