If you are having problems with a VA facility call and ask for the directors office. These must be tracked because I always get responses.

Good because I personally hate dealing with the local VA Hospital.
Not the Doctors and clinical staff but the menial low level lackeys that work there have a tendency to run me extremely hot with the disrespect and ignorance, they fail to realize we are the reason they have a job and should act accordingly.

It seems like we all agree that there is room for improvement. It also seems that situations are different depending on where you live. I have been in the VA Healthcare System for 20 years. I believe a lot of it has to do with the the patient no matter what type of Healthcare you have. Throughout the years somethings went smoothly and somethings I had to keep on top of making multiple calls. As long as I personally keep in charge of my Healthcare, I've never been turned down for anything.

I'm lucky because I live 1 mile from a Major Medical Center, which is not only a large Hospital but, has every type of specialist under the sun. My VA Clinic is 1.5 miles from my house. My VA Hospital is 200 miles away. So I've been lucky. I go to my VA Clinic, my Primary Doctor puts in for approvals and I get sent to the Medical Center up the street. It has changed since they started the VA Choice. It's just an unnecessary step for me. It might be a blessing if you live somewhere else. All VA Choice does for me is add another step in the process. Now once I get an approval (and I never had an approval take more than 48hrs) the VA will call me and ask if I want to opt in the VA Choice Program. This can add an additional 30 days to the process that wasn't there before.

All in all I understand the avenues I have to take to get what I need out of the VA Healthcare System. I have a great support team. Yes it could be better. I don't like to jump through the hoops sometimes but, I've never been denied care.

Lastly, over the past 6 years I've averaged 65-75 Medical Visits per year. That's a lot and I really don't like going that many times but my team has been there for me each step of the way and I feel really blessed.
