Default Weatherby Rifles

I shot my first weatherby rifle last year and killed my second deer of the season with it. I must say that I was very impressed. Now I see what all the hype is about weatherby rifles. Its my dads rifle, he does not shot it much so I am gonna try to get it from him. Oh yea, its a 270.

I havent fired a Weatherby in almost 40 years. Glad to hear that they are still good guns. What do you think of the 270 round?

The 270 is an excellent deer round. I heard it is a little lite for moose or elk, and should NOT be used for bear. most of my game fits into the deer size slot, so the 270 is right for my needs.

My other rifle is a 280. If the 280 and the 270 had been released at the same time, instead of the 270 getting a 25 - 30 year head start, the 280 would be more popular.

For East Texas deer hunting, debating the 270, 280, 308 and 30-06 is like debating apples and oranges. The shots here are rarely over 100 yards, unless you are on a pipeline or highline. Just about all the deer I have shot have been at the 50 - 75 yard mark. There may have been one or two deer that was right at 100 yard mark.
