Default Marlin Camp9 Carbine Question $ & etc.

I ran across a Marlin 9mm camp carbine with 4 extra magazines for $350.
I was wondering what you all thought of the deal ?
I forgot to check the chamber and bore, can do that later.

$350 huh.....hmmmm......since they seem to be scarce as hens teeth around here $350 would still be a little high since it is used but if it fits your overall defence plan and you have or going to get ruger pistols so mags will interchange....why not?.....

Buy it.
The price is a tad steep($300 is about average) but if it is in good shape and with extra mags.
They are nice little rifles.

I thought they took Smith and Wesson mags though......

S&W

You may be thinking of the Ruger PC9.
I have a PC 4 and it takes Ruger pistol mags too.
Also a nice rifle but actually I'd rather have the Marlin.

I have a Camp 9 carbine. It takes S&W Model 59 series 9mm magazines. Since there are so few Camp 9's around anymore, mags that fit aren't even listed as fitting the Camp 9 so I get the S&W 59 mags. They work great but the rifle does not like much of any ammo except the full metal jackets. Hollow points and fragible bullet rounds do not chamber reliably, at least in my experience.

Scruggs has got it right ... S&W 59 series mags ... and a little fussy about ammo.

I have one that I bought used for $300 w/2 mags ... so I'd say that $350 w/4 mags isn't a BAD deal. They are great guns, and reasonably accurate ... I love mine :D

One thing that I did find out while experimenting with ammo ... it seems to like alot of spring pressure to help keep the JHP from mis-feeding. If you load about 8 rounds of FMJ on the bottom of the mag, and then the last 7 rounds with JHP, mine will run through it all with good consistency. If you load the entire mag with JHP, it will ftf toward the last few rounds quite frequently.

Almost all of any kind of ftf that I have experienced with mine have been in the last 2 or 3 rounds of a mag. ... just an observation.

Buy a couple of extra recoil buffer pads. I don't know about the 9mm, but the ones in the 45 get brittle and fall apart after a few as a couple of hundred rounds.
I know a guy that has 4 of the 45s and he has had to replace all the buffers. There is an after market version that is made of polyurathane {sp?} and they stand up a lot better than the stock ones.

I have 2 of the Camp 9's.
The Marlin's came from the factory with 12 round mags.
What are the mags? Make and size.
4 S&W factory 20 rounders would set you back some change.
Some after market mags would be worthless.
In my neck of the woods they run about $300 with 1 mag. If it's in great shape and depending on the mags $350 may not be too bad a price.
BTW they are great shooters.

I bought mine used, and it didn't have any factory Marlin mag(s).

I always thought the original factory-supplied mags were 10-round, and a 4-round for hunting purposes. The 4-rounder being a "modified" 10-rounder with a block in the bottom.

The mags that came with mine are 15-round SS S&W. Would like to find a couple more, but aftermarket seems to prevail, and I'm not so sure I want to "go there."

Any Camp9 owners got a good source for reliable mags that are Camp9-friendly?

I had one about 8 or so years ago and yes, it was picky about anything other than 9mm FMJ rounds. I picked it up for $150 and sold it for around $250 a year later. I liked the fit/feel/finish of the little carbine, but I didn't like the picky ammo diet.
For $350, I'd likely pass.

I had one about ten years ago. I really wish I had kept it. Good rifle. I never had any problems with it shooting JHP's. It shot everything I put in the mags. Now, they are almost impossible to find.
