Default CX4 Beretta, 90 Series

Advertise Here

Hey All - in need of a CX4 magazine insert to convert a CX4 PX Series Carbine to accept 92/96 series magazines. The Beretta factory part number I need is
C5A511.
It can be seen here:
http://www.berettausa.com/products/c...-92/95-series/

I cannot find one in stock at any of my usual suppliers, i.e. Brownell's, MGW, Beretta, Midway, and a herd of other places, etc.

If anybody has one they want to part with, new or used, I'll make it worth your time, kapisch? Kapisch!

Thanks in advance!

Geez. ****ing Beretta. They could have solved this problem by simply using the same magazines but nooooooooooooooooooooo. Lets make it harder on everyone.

There's a reason I like Glocks better. This is one. Interchangable mags.

not exactly true... the shorter mags can't fit in the full size mag wells..... but all longer mags will work in short wells...

I don't need a special adapter to put a G17 mag in a G19 is what I'm saying.

but you can't fit G19 mags in a G17.... to me that doesnt meet the definition of "interchangeability"

Arrow Here's why I want it ...

Here's what I'm trying to do/why I want it.

I have a CX4 that accepts 90 Series mags - all of them. I have it in a Voodoo rig that carries 10x35rd magazines for it + the 20rnd'r I keep in it. With it I keep a Beretta 96A1 that I dropped a 9mm barrel into it, which also uses all 92/96 mags interchangeably. That said, I recently purchased a PX4 Storm 9mm (full size), that I really like - a lot. However, the inability to share mags with the CX4 and the 96A1 torques me and limits its usefulness to me. So, while playing with a 92/96 mag I was modifying to fit in the PX4, I said to myself 'Hmmm ... if one can throw an insert into a CX4 (and change the mag release button, too) and use PX4 mags in a 90 Series Carbine, and one can throw an insert into a PX4 series Carbine, etc. and use 90 Series mags in it, I'm going to get a CX4 90 Series Mag insert and mag release and attempt to modify them to work in the PX4 mag well so that it accepts 90 Series magazines.' So, that's the quest and project I am on and why I want the 90 Series mag insert. I'm almost positive that with a little creative shop work and plastic welding I can make it work.

I can, and do modify 90 Series mags to work in the PX4, but they have a sloppy fit. They work good enough but not well enough for my intended purpose. If I add material to the interior of the PX4 mag well to take up that slack, I lose use of the PX4 mags in it permanently, which is counterproductive. If I add material to the 90 Series mags, I lose the ability to use them in the Carbine and the 96A1 - again counterproductive, in my opinion. However, if I can modify the insert and adapt the magazine release, I retain the modularity I am seeking. If this experiment fails, though, I'm going to sell or trade the PX4 for another 96 or 96A1. For as much as I lift up other calibers, like the .45ACP, in a WROL environment, the hot 9mm is my caliber of choice for many, many reasons which people here will debate and knock, but frankly, Scarlett, the reasons and needs are mine, not theirs.

So there you have it - it's for a little special project so I can get it off my mind. It's one of those little stupid things that get stuck in your mind sometimes and gnaw away at you until you get the answer for yourself.

KelTec sucks anyway. I bought one of their pistols years ago....the P9 maybe? I can't remember the model, but it was a small 9mm. I bought it because the magazines interchanged with the S&W 59 series magazines. Anyway, I got about 30 rounds through it before I gave up. Multiple FTF and FTE, along with the sights falling off.....I took it back and bought another Glock.

^^^ "What does the px4 do that the 92 can't?" ^^^
- It makes ME warm and fuzzy all over.
- I like the lighter weight and slimmer grip on the PX4. I also like the rotating barrel that helps absorb the recoil of the +P+ loads I prefer.
- It conceals easier for ME.

If I succeed at my little experiment, my EDC Beretta Nano is going to live permanently on the Harley and the PX4 will become my EDC.

the amount of energy it takes to rotate the barrel is very small, i dont even think that would really affect recoil but 1-2%... the +p+ loads will give you even more energy out of a 5.9" bbl... the steel frame of the 92 will add mass and thus inertia will will really reduce recoils compared to a lighter weight system.

is your plan even feasible??? does the px4 have a mag sleeve in the frame???

It's the feasibility that's still in question at this point, to be honest. Again, it's just one of those 'I wonder' projects stuck in my head. But no, there is no stand alone sleeve in the PX4. Primarily for me, it's the slimmer grip of the PX4, which is my only personal gripe about the 92/96, and that it's polymer, but those are advantages for it if I can pull this little over ambitious project off successfully.

Funny that on the link to the official Beretta site, they talk about the ability to use 92/96 mags in a pistol and carbine as not only convenient but also saves 'the shooter the expense of purchasing extra, model specific magazines for the carbine'.

I guess it never occurred to them to just make the gun that way to begin with, but there I go thinking again.

Keltec did at least put some thought into making their carbine fit various magazines, vs some sort of proprietary mag. A friend had one of the older storms in 9mm, I remember he had trouble with some 30rd mags that flopped around in the housing. Guess at the time you had a choice of Beretta standard cap pistol mags or poorly made aftermarket hi caps. I went with a mechtech upper due to the fact I could use readily available glock mags.
