Hello everyone, Iím looking for advice on which counties are most friendly and least obstructive to those who wish to build their own living structures and live off the grid. My preference is to be in the northwest or north central regions. Can anyone help me?

Go far north... far away from State Government and state agencies. You also want to be wary of being too close to major cities (i.e. Minneapolis and St Paul)... Think Burnett, Polk, Barron, and east.

Don't go south into St Croix County. It is essentially being taken over by people looking for cheap land from St Paul area. With those looking for small plots of land to build their large houses, will come regulation and a negative attitude to those seeking freedom and space. But go north or east of there, and you should find friendly territory.

Those areas too will slowly turn. I'm in St. Croix and you are right, it is growing way too fast.
