Republican Congressman Claims Hammers Could Be Outlawed Under Assault Weapons Ban

Quote:
Still, hammers are not the only “weapon” that conservatives are equating with firearms in an attempt to undermine any gun control legislation. A state representative in New Hampshire, warned of another deadly weapon: credit cards. “Anything can be used as a deadly weapon, said Rep. Dan Dumaine (R). “A credit card can be used to cut somebody’s throat.”

Good thing I've got 3 or 4 20oz-24oz framing hammers, couple old school wood handled claw hammers, and some 4lb and 5lb sledge hammers.

That's a deadly assault hammer, and you may want to think about burying it in your back yard before its confiscated.

And what about my concrete nail driver? It uses .22 cartridges. OMG! It's a hammer AND a firearm!

I wonder what he would think if he knew I could kill him with a feather? Should we now begin the process of banning chickens? Some people are scared of their own shadows these days.

No, even nerf guns could be banned. My kids were in a nerf battle when my youngest (about 5 at the time) ran out of ammo and threw the gun at my oldest. Gave him 3 stitches above the eyebrow. The only real solution is to either ban everything under the sun -- or require that everyone spend his days in a cubicle, under a surveillance camera, in a straight jacket.

LOL I read that article about banning hammers. I laughed my butt off. I need my hammers to build things. And what about my roofing hammer that is also a hatchet and nail puller. I keep that beside my bed so I know where it is when I need it. And what about my 3 pound maul that I use for cutting tree roots and stumps? I have 2 sickles that I use for trimming tall grass. And I can't find my file sharpener. What about my machete that I need for cutting brush and my collection of old carbon steel knives? What about my spade shovel and gardening fork and my metal rake? I have a lot of lilac bushes and there was a maple tree growing in the middle of them. I went everywhere loking for a wire saw but most didn't even know what I was talking about so I went online to a tactical defense place and ordered two. Geesh, the minute I saw them they reminded me of garrotts. I guess they'll also come for my wasp spray that shoots 20 feet. I wonder what would happen if I lit a match to it. It is oil based. Hey they started it. The point is, anything can be used as a weapon. I could whack someone in the throat with the edge of a heavy book and put them down. Or stab them in the eye with a pen or spray them in the face with ammonia that I use for washing greasy dishes. Break a drinking glass and cut their throat. Even if they do manage to take the guns there will always be weapons. People will get more inventive. It's happened throughout history.
