Default Planning a move - advice ?

Hello everyone,

After carefully deciding, my significant other and I are going to plan a move to Virginia by fall. New England is a cold, Liberal **** show and we will be glad to be out. While I realise Virginia is not the most Conservative paradise, we have our reasons. Most of them being, her family is in New England and mines in NY. I am also familiar with Virginia a little, and it just makes sense.

Anyhow, not looking to be near DC and looking to be near the mountains. My idea was to move near the Charlestown area for now, while I recognize its college based, it also has major stores and seems to be more of an economic center then other areas I looked at (Roanoke for example). Im open to anywhere in VA however. We'd like to buy something down the road. Thanks.

And honestly ... if anyone has any land or something cheap for rent on their property reach out to me, I moved last October on a whim, and Im ready to do it again. We love rural living.

I lived in Virginia for years but moved to West Virginia ten years ago because I didn't like the direction Virginia politics were headed. Today VA is dominated by leftist Democrats who are destroying the state.

West Virginia is not perfect and has its problems, but is a conservative, constitutional-carry state. I live out in the country, hunt and fish on my own land and can shoot out of my windows.

Virginia is turning into where you are coming from. If your goal is to get away from the BS choose a different state.

I lived in VA from like 97-06 and then from 09-12 I didnt have many issues or complaints . my parents live in Buckingham County very rural 1 stop light town walmart is 30~40 mins away. you can find cheap land and rural farm houses I was looking at a 10 acre spread with house sheds pond a stream on property among other things for $120k. That was back in 2011ish I passed that opportunity up.

I dont' like where the state is now so I'm glad i did. you couldn't pay me to move there given the political climate shift. but to each their own.

Prince Edward, Buckingham, Cumberland, Green counties are all extremely rural but have access within an hr to larger metro areas Charlottesville and Richmond.

House of Delegates has passed several pieces of gun control legislation, but some of the measures face an uncertain future in the more conservative Senate.

The Democrat-led House approved seven gun measures Thursday, largely along party lines. The legislation will now go to the Senate for a vote, which has already passed its version of some of the measures but has shown signs that others may not survive.

The Democrat-led House approved seven gun measures Thursday, largely along party lines. The legislation will now go to the Senate for a vote, which has already passed its version of some of the measures but has shown signs that others may not survive. Both chambers are controlled by Democrats, but the Senate is the more conservative of the two chambers on gun issues.

Several Senate Democrats have already said they are unlikely to back the governor’s ban on so-called assault weapons, such as the popular AR-15-style rifles – a key part of Northam’s gun control package. The House version of the bill has also not advanced.
The assault weapons legislation has drawn the fiercest pushback, as gun-rights advocates accuse Democrats of wanting to confiscate such rifles from current gun owners. Northam has said he has no interest in doing so...

(The Virginia Democrats claim that there is no intention to confiscate firearms that get banned is disingenuous. At least one proposal has already gone farther than the registration requirements for grandfathered guns seen in other states to add NFA-style “licensing.” Note that in California, even registered guns cannot be transferred lawfully to private citizens, including by inheritance. Meanwhile, “On Saturday, Virginia anti-gun activist Joseph Sakran posted two images on his verified Twitter account, which he said was receiving death threats from pro-gun activists. Now it appears that the death threats he reported might have been a hoax. The Johns Hopkins Hospital surgeon has since deleted the images and all mentions of the threats.”)
