Actually, now that this thread has been resurrected, it makes me wonder where to buy decently priced MRE's? I have picked up a couple cases at gun shows for $60-$65 per case. I see online a lot of places are anywhere from $85-$120 per case. I don't stock a lot of MRE's, but it's nice to keep a few cases on hand for a quick camping trip, etc.

That's typical gun show prices in my region too. And that's about the best price you're likely to find. As you mentioned, the retailers want more. You might check surplus stores, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them selling them at full retail also. If you buy from gun shows, always check the date and the TTI indicator. Sometimes those guys get cases that are either old, or have sat around in the heat.

Current case prices for actual military MREs (12 each, new, w/ heaters) are almost $100 at a military commissary. Individual meals are about $8.

So there's a current frame of reference for comparison to civilian sources. Drastically below that price and you are usually getting either 1) older MREs near expiration or 2) the not-as-complete commercial or humanitarian aid versions.

folks that have Sportsman Warehouses in your locales might check them out; they are selling individual retort entrees for $5.99 apiece but a case of 12 "MRE's", (the cases are sealed and they wern't inclined to unseal it to satisfy my curiosity but they insisted the MRE's have all the standard fare) is selling for $60.00.

I've found that if you hit up the Indian section of the grocery store you'll find a buttload of mylar packaged long shelf life meals. Just dump it on rice or eat it as soup. Better selection if you have an Asian grocery store. Basically the same as mountain house meals, but $3 per pouch instead of $8. All good nutrient rich foods too. Rice, beans, cheese, meat, mango, spinach, etc. Cooking is optional.
