Oh yeah . . . Great Survival food. The glut of sodium / salt packed in that SPAM byproduct food material will do great things for a person's blood pressure. Might get through the initial SHTF scenario, but you may not survive the SPAM.
A more practical use for the stuff would be to plug up bullet holes in soft skinned recon vehicles.
The other half was always against me buying Spam or DAK ham to try in order for us to determine whether or not the family will eat it.
Last weekend, I went ahead and bought some anyway for us to try out. NOW, he says since things seem to be getting worse by the day, he thinks the S will HTF soon, so he wants to get more of them. Go figure!
Slice it thin and fry it with powdered garlic sprinkled on top. SPAM low sodium is better tasting IMHO. I don't love it, but I'll eat it. I think have 30 cans saved up last time I counted.
I eat one two cans a week ,love the stuff!spam, spamlite, spam less sodium, spam bacon, spam turkey spam hickory, spam jalapena, spam and cheese its all great!!
I don't tend to eat DAK or Spam by itself. I use it in recipes. And the DAK hams just work better. They make a decent pot of greens or green beans. But neither are very good by themselves. Not to me anyway.
Always try something like that before investing heavily in it. A lesson I learned the hard way with Treet. I figured it was just generic Spam and I don't really like Spam anyway. So I bought a bunch, only to find out that it makes Spam taste like a gourmet treat in comparison.
I have eaten and enjoyed Spam sandwiches all my life. My 1st wife found a recipe I think on a Spam can where you scored the Spam in a diamond fashion, stuck cloves in every intersection and poured a brown sugar glaze over it and baked it. It was as close to baked ham as you could get without a whole ham. Very , very good. :thumb:
An occasional fried spam sandwich isn't bad but I prefer to mix it with eggs, mac and cheese, or red beans and rice. With ground sausage, kielbasa, and some spam, red beans and rice has an almost exotic flavor
If and when I fry it up I rinse it off in the sink before preparing it tbh. Even then, it's too damn salty.
Really, really, bad for you healthwise. I rarely ever eat the stuff...but if I was on death row, my last meal request would be a fried spam sandwich on white bread with yellow mustard. Love the stuff!
Couldnt say for sure what species they are, but they appear to be larger " sardines " ( and they use a lot of species in that category )that are cut cross away from head to tail.
Picture the head cut off and you are looking at the cut off end of the carcass. Then just keep slicing down the length of the spine.
I like em packed with green chilis and sardines too.
does green eggs and spam give you gas?
does me even when sliced taters and onions are fryed alongside the spam.
but dern it's good. slice about 1/4" thick then fry. onions slice about 1/8"
Im not really a follower of the eat what you store, store what you eat crowd. Im not currently eating out of #10 cans, nor am I eating dehydrated or freeze dried foods. I cant afford to. I buy foods to last for emergencys. I would rather eat fresh while I can.
But everyone here complaining about spam, well if shtf you will be fighting for a can of it and not complaining about taste or salt. Food is fuel period. Of course now we can be picky about taste.
Bacon flavored Spam, Yellow Grits, and scrambled eggs..... Darn good eats!!! Keep several cans on hand...
