Me and my son found a road kill leather couch this evening. Between the two of us it only took 10 minutes to skin out. Really nice leather for projects. Son is working on a hat band now. Ive been needing to make some traditional muzzleloading goodies. Going to make a ball bag and maybe a holster and shoulder belt for my Lyman plains pistol.

Although I haven't used any for years, I keep a box of leather scraps for when nothing else will work. My stash started with a bag of leather scraps from a second hand store. It is nice because it has several different thicknesses, but nothing very big.

Lots of saddle makers in this part of the world, I bet you could buy some good stuff cheap from them.

Awesome. I doubt it will make a good holster.

When I was rebuilding saddles I bought a lot of leather scraps. Haven't looked in that container in years. You got me thinking.

Found another leather sofa at a closed weight station this weekend while out fishing. Gonna skin it tomorrow when I go take my trot lines up. My sons been working on his hat band and made a sling. We had a blast slinging rocks at a bucket. Probably have a $100 worth of leather if I would have bought it a Hobby Lobby. Going to start on my holster soon.
