Question

Sorry for the 'Necropost', but.. Figured this was apt-a springboard as any, and no real sense starting a whole New one, so.. Same Question as the OP..

..anyone herein live (or has-LiveD...) in / near Redding? Asking for 'move-to-area-consideration' reasons, currently doing homework and all.. (don't worry, your OpSec shall not be compromised..

..Just looking for peeps with 'boots on the ground / Living in Redding' experience, not looking for the 'well I'd imagine's... already been thru the skads of 'blogs' / online reviews, etc..

..Common theme (even on the 'Dark Side' version of this thread..) seems to be a) Too hot in summer (unrelenting triple-digits for Months..) b) Too overrun by transients / 'homeless' (both of those by choice or circumstance...) / tweekers and just general 'Benefit Rats', taking advantage of the liberal policies / lax law enforcement, etc..

..Any SB-perspectives? Already read Lots of 5-6 yr old 'testimony', but.. Looking to mostly know if, in 2018.. is it Worse? or Way Worse? or, about the 'Same as it ever was', etc.. Or, somewhat 'better'? ie: Petty crime (car break ins, etc) Up or Down?

..Family-friendly? (yes, know all about the Amazing Parks, etc.. talking about general 'going about town safety', etc..) Or, forget it / Run from the iZombie hordes?

..Thanks for any input / experience, Much obliged..

Right.. Appreciate it, but pretty much already knew of all the 'good stuff' (..thus, Why it's under consideration - at All... Looking for more data on the 'Homeless Drug-Zombie to Positive-Contributor Citizen Ratio', and any 'experience' with crime levels these days..

..Most search engine searches present a pretty heavy slant towards 'run screaming / don't bother' sort of average-testimony, but not many 'newer' than late 2016 posts, so..

..Maybe that suggests the City's all been Eaten alive? Keen to hear any - Current - perspectives on those Specific aspects.. Crime-rampacy and 'Heat norms'.. Either really So bad, now, that ya wanna 'run screaming'?

..One alternate consideration is Chico, and feel like we've got a pretty-good grasp on the 'Pros / Cons' of there, down, but.. Kinda wanting to be further N than Chico if possible..

..And Have friends near Peanut-area (awesome area, Much of Trinity..) but that's a bit 'too remote' for the work I'm considering.. Plus, we've already Got a 'BOL' and that's not it...

'Preciate any further / wider Inputs on Redding.. Danke..

a) Yeah, aware of that.. b) OK, well.. we're not just 'looking for some Random place to Move', this is about a job-op - IN Redding - which also get's us within 200 miles of our BOL (vs 600+..) so..

..I hear (and appreciate..) your comments, but.. What I am asking is *Why*.. Why 'forget Redding'? Please explain...

..Unless you're saying 'forget Redding', because you think we are:

..Uh, yeah, No. if you've read even 1-2 of my 'diatribes' anywhere Else in SB, you'd know that we're 180˚ from that And (in case it isn't Obvious..) my 'screen name' is the acronym for 'State of Jefferson' - which I am a Hardcore supporter of (if it can ever Happen is another discussion but..) That's where I / We stand, so.. you needn't worry.. We'll be ones helping ya sniper the 'golden hordes of iZombies' when they come...

Do you have your California CCW ? and what part of 72 % GOP & 89% Non Minority slipped by you

I often wondered where else I would live if I was not here (Only Place I have considered is Quincy Ca.) and even though my Mountain Home /BOL B in the Southern Cascades /Ultra Rural Eastern Shasta County is like a combination of Vermont meets Calabama ,and my Country Home /BOL A near Old Shasta /Centerville is more like the area where a new version of "Green Acres" would be filmed I love it here . 99% of My Family is in Texas and my Daughter & her Husband & my young Grandsons are in New Jersey yet I'm not interested in moving to those places at this juncture .

Lol, you're quite the character, Sir.. a) As I stated early on, I Do know / appreciate all the Good aspects of the area.. That's Why it's under consideration.. Yes, I Have been to Some of those areas (Shasta Lake, etc..) and been Thru Redding plenty of times.. But, 'passing thru' - and Living in - are two different animals.. Slightly more complex a decision-process than 'Dang, that restaurant was Awesome.. let's Move here!!'..I am looking for people's Recent-years experience with 'petty crime' levels - In Redding, proper...

b) a CCW does you little good, if, ie: While you're enjoying your stay on Shasta Lake / water-skiiing on Whiskeytown.... Some tweeker / street-urchin is looting your work truck parked back at your suburban-neighborhood driveway, etc.. And, CCW does my 12 yr old Daughter little good if the School she attends there is full of druggie-kids and overtly-bad moral influences, like she has to fight against down here in HeLA... Or if her / her Friends are walking down 'Main Street' after classes, enjoying an ice cream, and will likely have to navigate past 15 different meth-heads trying to hassle them at each corner.. All because things are 'way worse, there, now', If that's indeed, the case... THAT's the input I'm asking for..

..So, again: How's the 'ambient crime levels' up in Redding, proper, these days? ...As bad / worse than all the online 'reviews' / blogs / commentaries suggest? Or is all that just 'subterfuge' by locals to keep liberal riff-raff away? Thanks for any - other - input..

Oh, and PS - Pretty sure tweekers don't give a rats about what 'what political party' the person's house they're sacking is... Unless you're suggesting, by those 'stats', that blowing away petty-criminals in suburban neighborhoods - by vigilant Conservative neighbors - is commonplace up there (?) If so, then Hell to the yeah, we're Packing!..

Thanks for your input.. Glad you like it up there..

Been Boating sometimes twice a week at Whiskeytown (And Shasta a few times a season ) since 2003 and NEVER had my rigs broken into or trailer messed with . I take a EDC CCW Glock 19 on my boats (In beach bag) and carry daily since 2012 and NEVER ONCE been close to pullin my EDC in a street hassle or situation (And I get around a lot more than an average working citizen ) Your intel is slanted and biased , I don't know where you currently reside , but I would not move there if a 150k$ a Year dream job opened up for me (Even if it were Irvine or Menlo Park or Back in Culver City /Beverly Hills where I grew up & Lived most of my Adult Life and thought it was the center of the Universe . These days I hate going south of Red Bluff for any reason , but I will go to Chico for a Gun Show twice a year and the SO likes the Downtown Farmers Market there , but otherwise its like a Hippiefied College town version of Oroville to me . You are way too concerned about what other folks write about Shasta County & Redding and My attempts at fleshing my experiences out retiring & living up here are not resonating . If Shasta Regional and Mercy Hospital Redding do not give you a ray of hope for this region then nothing will ...
