As the state law is written you can't import any ammunition into California at all. To purchase any ammunition in the state you have to have a California driver's license. If California residents buy the ammo out of state and import it they can get fined the first time and the ammunition confiscated. The only checkpoints that exist are the agricultural ones which do have certain search and seizure abilities over commercial enforcement (Trucking). The part that nobody is very clear about is non-commercial vehicles. If they directed you into secondary and you just smiled and waved at them as your drove through I'm not sure there is anything that they can really do absent the plain sight doctrine i.e. open fruits, nuts, vegetables things of that nature. Even then they are not going to get into a pursuit over this as they do not qualify under P.C. 832 to do so. If you were to be stop of your own accord just remain polite and exercise your rights. Without extenuating circumstances such as being a 4th amendment waiver (If you are you are probably in violation anyway depending) or consenting to a search I can't fathom a reason there could be a warrant signed to search the vehicle.

Those checkpoints see a lot of traffic and there are no barricades after them. Just the agricultural inspectors on an island and a red or green light. In truth, they have very limited peace officer powers and I'm not completely clear if they could detain you or not. I'm not advocating breaking the law but it is somewhat not easily enforced. I think it appears to be more written to put a extreme control on the citizens of that state to purchase ammunition. I have long said that the leftists clearly understand it will be nearly impossible to get your guns. What they will go after is what feeds them and states like California and Massachusetts are doing exactly that.

As a former Californian (born and raised), now living in sw Colorado 160 miles from the closest Interstate Highway, I can tell you that I have absolutely no intention of ever returning to the land of fruit and nuts! When I grew up out there in the 50's and 60's it was a nice place to be and the state was a magnet for people to come to. Now folks are leaving in droves. Taxes are too high. Housing is ridiculously high. Gun laws not only make no sense they are flat out unconstitutional. The idiots in Sacramento are flat out globalists who want no borders at all and seem to think that they can afford to provide education, medical care, welfare, college, and cell phones to every illegal immigrant that comes to the state without regard to the cost of those socialist programs to the California tax payers.

I have absolutely no idea why any freedom loving American wants to keep living there. I have no intention of even visiting the place again. As far as I'm concerned its a whole other country and I don't want to live there.

Apparently the DOJ is planning an Emergency Action and rewrite the law to be a R.E.A.L. ID.

So as the law is read, importing only applies to CA residents. So an out of state resident can bring in ammo during their travels.

If they forget some behind after visiting you apparently it is your CA duty to turn it into L.E.O. or take it to the nearest FFL and process legally. Yeah right.

First and foremost CA politicians don't think.

Secondly, any of us here behind enemy lines started stocking up on ammo the day this was announced. I should be good until about 2037.

As usual this will not impact the criminal element who pays no attention to the gun laws and will put a hurdle in the way of the law abiding citizen who wants to protect his/her family.

Just keep driving into neighboring states and use cash to buy a ton of ammo (they will never know when you got it or where), UNTIL the first time getting caught and slapped with a infraction...then obviously stop, even though a misdemeanor is no big deal either...usually.

How much lost revenue is this going to be - sales tax wise, business wise, etc.

Can you purchase out of state online?

Online ammunition purchases must be delivered to a licensed vendor for face-to-face delivery to the purchaser. To receive the package, the purchaser must have passed a background check and submit a thumb print for each sale. Licensed ammunition vendors are obligated to record, keep, and report all sales to the DOJ.

The Ca DOJ collects a $1 "fee" for each sale from the buyer.

I think many will take up the hobby of reloading since Californian's will still be able to purchase such supplies online.

I wonder how prevalent the black market will become.

Some Walmarts are no longer carrying ammo, this will probably increase.

If this is successful it will most likely be coming to other Blue States soon, IMO.

The entire I-5 corridor is a awash in this kind of nonsense, it isn't just California that is coming down on law abiding gun owners. California Oregon Washington all have adopted similar stances, legalize pot, come down on gun owners, blah, blah, blah.

I use to say get out the vote and try to turn things around, now I say get out, just get out! you can delay but you can't win. They already have the upper hand and it's only a matter of time before law abiding gun owners in these states are vilified and denied their 2A rights.

Went to register my new pistol. showed CDL and was told I need a second ID with address. I got out my resident hunting license and a check stub with my address from the state of California as I'm a retired state worker. I was told neither was acceptable. I need a car registration, house payment book or a utility bill. An illegal doesn't need to show residence to get benefits from social services or medical coverage but we citizens are up a creek. By the way, the people in line at the register had a lot of ammo.

For most that's just not a practical solution.
I suspect there are rules that make "importation" illegal unless you have a FFL.

This also says sales to non-residents won't be allowed:

That is the way it has been for several years at least, ID and a utility bill as proof of residence.

Anyone going to or living in Cali needs a reality check. We need a wall around the US with Cali on the outside.

The only non-violent means we have left is for juries to stop convicting people of violating these unconstitutional laws.
