Default Reporting Spammers

Advertise Here

In the last week I have come across 3 users that were spammers. They all had a few things in common.

1. Their accounts were created in the last month.
2. Not many posts. None of them had over 20 posts.
3. All or the majority of their posts were things like, +1, cool, thanks, good to know. Things like that.

Items 1 and 2 are to be expected from new posters. However, if you see number 3, please report the post. Often times what they are doing is hiding an embedded link that you cant see.

Thanks.

An embedded link is just another way of saying a link. When you click on it, it leads somewhere else.

Embedded links can be text, images, or whatever.

Thanks for that info but, what is the purpose of one that you cannot see as Hawk pointed out?

I think it has to do with attempts to improve a websites ranking. The more links out there = higher on search engines. The search engines are aware of this practice and can screen out spammed links.

It can also lead to the very real potential of your computer being infected, passwords stolen, your identity taken, etc.

That is what I was wondering, I have had a funky message on my phone and it may be coincidence but, seems to have occurred after reading 2 or 3 odd posts from a new poster. I guess I better check out the exact message and see what I come up with.

They are called "one pixel spammers" You can't see their embedded link unless one copies it for a quote. And sometime that does not work so well. I have had to bring them up on the edit screen to see the link before. From our research, it has to do with views. They get paid for page traffic not, link hits. One cannot hit their links by accident, not possible.

I can give an example.

http://prntscr.com/nltwc8

All this guy posted was a plus one. Circled.

But when we pulled it up in a quote........

This one had this hidden in it +1 ttps://dwnd.icu/assets/79/C,jpg

Can't see it nor click on it by accident. It is literally one pixel in size. The above was changed to keep anyone from accidentally clicking on it.
It is a traffic tool. We are usually good at catching them because we have hooked it up to our search habits, thanks to MikeK. But, spammers and crooks are always thinking of new ways to monetize anything they can.
So, if anything you see is suspicious, please report it.
