The P13 was the British rifle developed to replace the NO. 1 MK 3 Lee Enfield. When WW1 were declared, the P13 in .276 was re-designed to use .303 ammunition as the P14. As there was no spare manufacturing in England, they went across the pond to America. They contracted with Winchester and Remington/Eddystone to make the P14 ( they paid millions to have the Eddystone plant built) until home production of the No1-Mk 3 could catch up to the huge demand as England expanded its Army to fight around the world. When the USA entered the war they bought out Englands share of the P14 and re-designed it again for the 30-06 round, resulting in the US Model of 1917.
