Default Paint Morakniv Handle?

Advertise Here

I want a Morakniv Basic 546, but the handles only come in blue, and blue orange combinations. Why a so called hunting knife comes in blue beats me.

Has anyone painted their Morakniv handle? If so, how did it work out?

I have a 511 with a black handle I thought about experimenting on, but wanted to ask here first.

ever drop a knife? Orange is easier to find. painting the handle could make is slick. I put poly urethane on knife handles that I build. You will appreciate the guard when cleaning game. the handle gets slick

what color do you want it? dying the plastic may be better than painting it

Plasti-Dip, bed liner, a few other options.

Or just get over the model number and buy a different one. The Companion models come with stainless and basic colors.

Another option, get a carbon blade and use some vinegar/acid/mustard dip to put a patina on it.

I thought I read, most game animals are color blind about orange? Not sure that's true, but I'm sure I've read it/heard it.

i'd be fine with orange or unnatural colors, as someone said earlier if you drop that in the snow or misplace it somewhere, it's going to be a hell of a lot easier to find.. camo and naturally colored "outdoor knives" dont make much logical sense

The "craftline" knives are intended as inexpensive knives for tradesmen. It's like screwdrivers - they come in all sorts of bold colors.

The Pro S is about the same size. The blade is a bit wider though still 2mm thick. At least part of the handle is black. You could use a magic marker on the blue part.

Couple great ideas there Kev, ajole's idea of truck bed liner is really good. That stuff sticks well and is pretty darn tough. Get the right stuff and it should provide excellent "gription".
The magic marker is pretty good too! Inexpensive and easily reapplied if necessary.

well, if the handle is already orange, couldnt it be turned green by adding a specific amount of blue dye into the plastic?.. or black dye would pretty much erase the orange completely and turn your handle black.. and this wouldnt just be some surface layer that'll flake off with use.. so yeah, just dye it, or buy something that is already in the color you want.. or just buy a different mora.. it'd probably cost less than the paint or dye

Yes, I actually did that. Used Krylon. Right after painting it comes off easily. The trick is to give it about a week. After that its very hard, stays in place nicely and wont chip (or at least wont chip much at all)
I'm happy with the results.

The Morakniv Companion is almost identical and it comes with a black handle.

Morakniv Companion Fixed Blade Outdoor Knife with Sandvik Stainless Steel Blade, 4.1-Inch

Kev, with all the color changes you want to make, what color do you plan to paint your dog?
