Default Telemarketing calls ?

Advertise Here

I am on do not call registry, and got 3 "calls" on cell from unusal numbers w/in 20 mins. this A.M.

I do not answer calls from numbers I do not recognize, and rely on vmail messages to call back.

If no message is left, the nunber goes on my blocked caller list.

2 sets of numbers were 11 digits and 1 set was 12 digits.

The numbers had no parenthesis for area code and no dashes between numbers.

Examples below are exactly as they appeared on my phone.

3026145100193

22790058560

22790028514

I wonder if telemarketers are trying something new to get around do not call registry enforcement.

Anyone seen this before?

I haven't seen numbers in that format on my cell phone's caller ID, bonegunner.

I do the same thing you do: I just don't answer if it's not a number I recognize. I figure if it's a legitimate call, and if the person really needs to get in touch with me, he or she will leave voicemail.

I haven't bothered getting into the Do Not Call registry because a number of people I know have told me they get quite a few spam calls in spite of the fact that they have taken the time to get their phone numbers into the registry. I figure it would just be a waste of my time to register.

No clue, maybe they are moving back off-shore to avoid USA prosecution. I too never answer an unknown #, no vm no calling back. I add numbers to the block list but I seldom saw more than 2 attempts from the same #.

I use shouldIanswer APP on my cell phone.

The users including me will flag any relemarketers or other unwanted calls. The info is shared across all users and it stops those callers before the phone even rings.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...nswer&hl=en_US

I use the older version.

The newer version might not be as good.

I tried it a couple of months ago, and wound up removing it.

It was buggy, and a pain.

Felt it was just a easy to block callers on phone.

I hear congress is trying to get phone companies involved in new plan to try and stop telemarketers.

Did you try the old version? The reviews say the new version is not so good, but the old one is flawless on my phone.

They are using digital phone programs with an auto dial to call everyone randomly. Happens to me 5 to 10 times a day. I am on a no call reg. but doesn't change anything. They even call my work number sometimes. Seems to be India when I take my time and wait for a human just to waste their time.

Just signing up for the Do Not Call Registry is not enough. You have to get on the spammers/telemarketers' blacklist. First you sign up for the DNCR. Then you report the first five or ten callers that ignore the DNCR. Once the telemarketers begin getting harassed (or fined), your phonecalls will start to dwindle down to nothing over the next six months.

I got on Do Not Call Registry about a year after it started (was late getting the news). First six months nothing happened, I called them to complain, and was told you actually have to use the DNCR (i.e. report the callers to them). I now only get rare calls from charities begging for money. or third parties connected to the bank. The former are exempt, the latter get permission from the bank, even though I dropped Chase and Bank of the West years ago.

My cell phone started ringing at 4:08am this morning. Since the phone was on charge in the kitchen it was a 70' sprint across the house to answer what surely must be an emergency with one of my elderly parents. I quickly answered the phone without even looking at it; dead silence. I looked at the screen which read "Unknown Caller". No return phone number, no way to report them, no reason for the call as far as I can tell. WHY!!!!

By the way I'm on the DNC list.

I just checked my cell phone.
The last unwanted call was 9 days ago.

I think because I report every one using the APP I mentioned above, they must get finally realize that calling me means about 100,000 other users of the APP will automatically block them.

I forgot to mention it in my earlier post, but I also use the Should I Answer? app. I like it. People here have said there is an old and a new version. I've had the app for a couple years, I think, so I'm probably using the old version.

Not sure, but the app would not recognize numbers on my contact list and would conflict with something.

We no longer answer our home phone. The answering machine gets it. If it is important they will leave a message. Seldom anymore does a robo call leave a message.

If I were dictator each robo called dumber would have $1 credited agains its phone bill and the caller charged the dollar.

I don't let it see my contact list at all.

The old version that I have and like has this logo

I simply tell it to stop calls with the sensitivity slider most of the way toward safe. The sensitivity sets the criteria for how many negative community ratings a number has, before it blocks the call. I think if there is even 1 person that has flagged the number, it gets blocked. I mean it doesn't even ring. The light on the phone display wakes up, but that is all. They can still leave a voice message if it is a real person. The scammers rarely leave a voice message, although a couple do.

I went from getting 10 calls or more a day, to 1 call every 10 days.

The new version that has negative reviews has this logo.

It has gotten so bad that I just let callers go to VM. Spoofing caller ID should be as serious a crime as operating a radio without a license. But the FCC does not give a damn. If you go to the Enforcement Bureau website they are more active in shutting down pimply kids with pirate radio stations in their attics than crooks scamming the elderly on useless time shares or extended auto warranties that cover only the parts least likely to fail like a crankshaft.

I actually tried calling that gal who runs the FCC EB. She screens her calls. If you are an executive for a major broadcast network, she will take the call.
