I live in Somerset, farming country in the southwest of England. I haven't seen stockpiling of any kind, anywhere. People around here are generally nervous about Brexit: worried that it will be so watered down that it might as well not happen.

If so, it must be because they haven't realized yet that there isn't going to be a brexit..

The general public would not "see it". The "Free Press" in the UK isn't free at all. The UK is a "you can't possibly say that or say this or even look sideways at another person. I would be locked up in short order in the UK for voicing my personal opinions.

Say anything anti-Muslim in the UK and you will be throttled (chocked) in short order. The "word Police" are everywhere.

Give me the good old US of A everyday.

If the UK government are in charge of stockpiling food and medicine for a hard Brexit - I rely on them
to utterly screw it up in every conceivable way and one or two inconceivable ones.

Even at my most mischievous I would not wish you guys go all 1860’s on each other again.
But I did get the giggles when some people on here were genuinely convinced Obama was going to stay in office regardless.

I had the same giggles when the media suggested Michelle run for president.
Actually, more of a belly laugh.

Correction noted. I was always under the assumption that the parliament and prime minister had ultimate authority.

And you are no different than most Brits so do not expect any of them posting here to agree the words in the military oaths mean what they say.

Just like every major Gov't. Oath here where everyone promises to uphold and defend the Constitution?

They probably wish they could bail and some Conservatives probably wish for a snap election they could lose to Labour just so that someone else could take the heat for a while.

There is a profound difference between civilian government oaths within a political environment and a military oath in a military chain of command.

None-the-less you point is well made.
