Somewhere in new testament Paul had a vision of swine and other unclean things to Jews coming down from heaven, he questioned the Lord and the Lord said bless and eat or to that effect. What he hath made clean is clean indeed...This was prior to Cornelius conversion. The first written gentile receiving the Holy Ghost. It was a message for Paul to witness to Cornelius.

Its not what goes into your body that you need to worry about, its what comes out --- as in your thoughts and words. I believe Jesus spoke a parable about it??

I believe the dietary laws were placed for a reason. Swine is unhealthy, full of parasites. I don't believe you'll go to hell for eating pork ...you just won't be as healthy. I quit eating pork years ago....except for pepperoni pizza... can't help it....my big sin.

If it was part of the 'Big 10', I'd step away from the table but it wasn't covered there. I'm from Iowa, and we love our pork and beef. I think bacon and butterfly pork chops are a gift from God.

If you only ate only stewed meat, it would be OK.

I'm pretty sure the laws in Lev. were essentially "repealed" with the New Covenant in Jesus Christ, I'm not sure where that is stated, or implied, so if someone was aware of scripture to back it up, I'd really appreciate it.

Actually, it was Peter who had a vision in a dream. Though he saw food in the dream the message God was sending him had to do with the souls of men. It had to do with the relationship between the tribe of Judah (and Benjamin) which were considered "clean" and the lost tribes of Israel (Gentiles/nations/divorced Israelites scattered abroad) which were considered "unclean." Some of the Apostles didn't believe that the gospel message should be taken to the "unclean" men but Peter's vision convinced him otherwise. Peter's vision had nothing to do with food in the literal sense.

Food laws had less to do with topics concerning salvation as they did with general health. However, when God says that a food is unclean and that we should not partake of it we ought to heed His command.

Truth! These are the more important things to concern ourselves with and more important, IMO, than God's food laws. However, pork is still an unclean food. Pigs eat all the trash and junk that other animals leave behind or won't eat. Pigs are God's vacuum cleaners. Not only are they full of parasites but the meat doesn't digest well. I don't touch the stuff.

So you're holed up in a cabin in the woods...your family are starving, the baby is dying. The only game is a herd of wild pigs. Are you all going to starve slowly to death ?

I eat pork. I don't eat a lot of it but I do admit I eat bacon and pepperoni, sometimes ham, sometimes pork roast. My main meat is beef and then chicken. Mmmmm....meat.

Anyway, the food laws were given to the the Israelites. I'm not saying you shouldn't follow them. By all means, feel free. But the Gentiles were not required to abide by the food laws or circumcision. Yes, Peter was speaking about people, not food. But nowhere biblically does it say that the gentiles were to change what they ate (only to not indulge in drunkeness) nor were they required to be circumcized.

I am a very healthy person. I am careful about what I bring into my body, but I do eat some pork....and I do not feel the least ounce of regret about it. God has not convicted me to stop eating it. Nor has He convicted me to stop mixing meat and milk.
