Nothing new here. They were "trained" by politicians who taught them how to vote in return for their free government benefits. This is the new meaning of entitlement - to take what you WANT without regard for actually paying for anything. Politicians have been doing it for years only they are a little more subtle about it.

The important things about this IMHO are not who did it, nor whether they'll be prosecuted (doubtful), nor even which month it happened -- the critical lessons-learned are (1) how rapidly the event occurred; and (2) the fact that no one could stop it from happening.

Store shelves emptied in a frenzy, in multiple locations, in a very short time period.

Think about the similar reaction after the Sandy Hook shootings last December: the shootings happened around mid-morning on a Friday morning. The President addressed the nation later that same Friday afternoon. Within 24 hours there were no extended Glock magazines to be purchased anywhere in the US (don't ask me how I know this...) By the following Tuesday, 4 days later, gun stores were cleaned out of AR and AK type rifles nationwide. Ammunition was impossible to purchase, and even manufacturers of AR-type rifles online were unable to purchase the parts necessary to produce the rifles. Not only rifles were gone, but many popular shotguns and handguns had disappeared coast to coast as well, and they did not begin to reappear until 4 or 5 months later after Congress voted down the Gun Ban our President announced.

The take-away lesson for all of us IMHO is that when the Crunch hits - whatever the initiating event - it will happen fast. Store shelves will empty fast, banks will close fast, gas stations will have long lines at them fast, gun stores will be sold out fast - and not all of us are entirely ready for those sorts of conditions just yet. Many of us are still "a work in progress".

The value of something like this latest EBT melt-down is that it provides a tiny window into how quickly things will fall apart, when the entire fabric of our society begins to unravel.

JMHO. YMMV.

walmart made a CHOICE to accept the cards during the outage/glitch and made it clear "NO LIMITS" as they had no way to verify balances. plain as day on the video and articles. what were you expecting? like hitting the lotto. theft? NOPE. walmarts bad. they should have set a limit. then again, the ebt card carrying folks knew approx. how much they had as initial balances, so their BAD too. lose/lose for all involved.

With a frenzy like that, I'm surprised there weren't a lot more of them just rushing out the door with loaded carts.

Whatever WM lost by allowing people to strip the shelves is just a drop in their corporate bucket. They knew whatever loss they incurred by allowing this kind of theft was insignificant to their bottom line.

We all know it was a trial run. WalMart knows the EBT limit is $50 in situations like that.

Heard a story on the radio that Gov Jindal of Louisiana was going to look into revoking the EBT benefits of people who took advantage of the computer glitch.

I've heard that 'revoking' is the rule.... It will be interesting to see what happens.
