Being the NON-LETHAL section, id have to say carry a taser. drugged up or crazy, a taser puts them down if both prongs connect. state of mind has nothing to do with it. i was sprayed ear to ear with OC spray and fight through 4 training stations , bashed several dummies a few dozen times, and drew a weapon and gave arresting commands. and I am not a tough man. Im a 5'9" 160lbs Gilmore Girls watching, still bawling at land before time, dude. Now imagine what someone who cant feel pain and wants to **** you up might be able to do. Plus the whole reason LEOs get pepper sprayed is because if you need to deploy spray, chances are you are going to get exposed to it. So you are going to have fight an enraged dude, who wants to hurt you while you yourself are dealing with the effects of the spray.
Maybe stash the prohibited items off the work site?

Default Insulated cup

Get a good insulated cup.

fill it with boiling hot water in the microwave oven at work just before you leave.

Place the top loosely on it.

If attacked walking home, throw it in the face of your attacker and run away screaming "CALL 911"!

I dunno, today I hit myself accidentally in the head with the handle of a pair of heavy pliers, it hurt like hell. I think that a big metal torch could achieve the same effect. a walking cane, a reinforced umbrella...
