Islamic State plans currency based on a gold Dinar
http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworst...wn-gold-dinar/

“The Islamic State has announced that they will start producing their own currency in areas under its control, in an effort to “emancipate itself from the satanic global economic system”.
Isil which is thought to be the wealthiest terror group in the world – announced on Thursday its plans to reinstate an ancient Islamic dinar currency using gold and silver coins in a move “purely dedicated to God”
The self-declared state’s Treasury said it would soon be issuing another statement to explain the new currency’s exchange rate and where to find it.
The currency, based on the original dinar coins used during the Caliphate of Uthman in 634 CE, will include seven minted coins: two gold, three silver and two copper.

It looks like the gold dinar will be around a half ounce of gold and thus have a current value in the $600 range.***

anyone hear anything more recent on this?

"In fact, the Islamic State has also reportedly announced its currency exchange rate - 1 Gold Dinar is $139 and 1 Silver Dinar is $1, according to the Terrormonitor.

Isis had released designs of its proposed currency coins last year, and the recent images of the dinar gold coins show symbols of seven wheat stalks, which is reportedly mentioned in the Quran."

I'll melt every one I can get my hands on.... which will probably be none. I'm not going to look for these coins, but gold is gold.

It must be diluted with base metal.

And diluted coinage just as bad as paper.

The most common Islamic gold dinar was struck at a weight of 4.25 grams. Gold is currently $37.40/gm. Assuming they plan to produce Dinars at the old weight, there is nothing wrong with their pricing.

Per Wiki,
"First gold dinar
The gold coins were first struck to the contemporary standard of 4.4 grams and with one or more Arabic Standing figures on the obverse and an Arabic legend on the reverse. Dated coins exist from 74 AH and are named as 'Dinars'. These experimental issues were replaced in 77 AH, except in North Africa and Spain, by completely epigraphical designs very similar to the designs adopted for the silver pieces but with a shorter reverse legend and no annulets or inner circles. This type was used without appreciable change for the whole of Umayyad period, the coins being struck to a new and carefully controlled standard of 4.25 grams. This weight was reputed to be based on the average of the current Byzantine solidi, was called a Mithqal, a term used earlier for 1/72 of a ratl. Evidence of the importance attached to the close control of the new Dinars is provided by the existence of glass weights, mainly from Egypt. They usually show the governor's name, sometimes the date but all marked with coin denomination."

I bet some country goes out and counterfeits them to try to reduce trust in the ISIS money system. At least that's what I would do.

If they did not pay for the gold at market price but only pillaged it, they can put any price they want on it.

The coin should show a severed head stuck on a fence on one side, and a guy being machinegunned on the other side. The words "Religion of Peace" should be imprinted in Arabic around the edge.

I'm sure the irony would be lost on Islamic State.

Putting a dollar value seems to be self defeating for the purpose intended. Why not place a practical value on it, like a gold dinar equals X amount of labour, or a silver dinar equals X amount of bread.

If I was so intent on breaking away from the satanic system I would hardly want to compare my new currency with Satan's.

What he said. Long time no see Jash were you been bud?

Also Silver Eagles are marked $1.00 despite the spot price of silver. Has anyone seen anything on the metal makeup yet? The face value of most minted coins is not indicative of the metal value.

Melting them down for principle has been the best idea yet.

Until they come HERE, I could not care less how they conduct their transactions or value their metals.
I stopped living in Ramadi in Sept. 2004, and hope it stays the hell that it always was and will always be.

Yes, long time. Had a few close relatives die recently and other things. Put the brakes on normal life for a while. Things are normalising now.

reports that the Gold Dinar is in circulation

http://www.breitbart.com/national-se...se-u-s-dollar/

***Citing reports on jihadi online forums, the news outlet adds, “The coins, currently being released in limited quantity, are to primarily be used by traders in the oil industry in areas under Islamic State control.”***

http://www.vocativ.com/337227/report...MED-BO-15a-R17

***The Syrian activist group “Raqqa is being slaughtered silently” posted pictures on its Twitter account Tuesday allegedly showing the Islamic State’s new gold coins in Raqqa, the terror group’s self-proclaimed capital.

The images surfaced just days after reports said ISIS started issuing the currency—the “Golden Dinar”—in areas the terror group controls. According to the unconfirmed reports, the coins began circulating in the Syrian city of Dir e-Zour and the Iraqi city of Mosul, and ISIS has asked traders to buy oil using the currency.***

I think if this were true and in any quantity the US dot gov would have claimed the gold for themselves because we only do two things nowadays. Cause mayhem and steal gold and they are very good at both.
