So today I picked up a 1987 Marlin 30as. It's a 336 with a birch stock essentially. The internals had some nice carbonized...gunk, the finish on the stock was foggy, and there was a good deal of surface rust over the barrel and a bit of the receiver. I bought it anyways, for $99, and took it home. A little while later with some elbow grease, and lo-and-behold the rust practically vanishes, the stocks shining, and I have the internals cleaned out.

There's still a few scuffs, and a nick or two in the barrel finish but damn if it isn't much prettier. Definitely would consider it on the lower side of good\upper side of fair, rating. I am very happy, seeing as I've seen similar rifles in similar condition going for three times what I paid.

Now to swap out that crossbolt safety with a saddle ring, and get a peep sight set for it. That's all, maybe $160 total into it when I'm done? (unless anyone wants to send me some free parts: lol, jk) I'm happy with it, it's been a pretty good day.
