I'll start the ball rolling. I downloaded a PDF reader and MS WORD reader, both free, for my $99 Android tablet. All of my survival files are in one of these formats or the other. A small Micro SD Card (8 Gigs) holds these files, scanned personal documents and photographs, and some music files. All files are encrypted. I still have about 4 Gigs left to expand. All files are also backed up onto a DVD, and thumb drives. Will be watching for additional files on this post. These files were found by a simple search on google.

I also copy information from this Forum, including some fiction, as my night reading. These articles and stories are saved in the .doc format and I save them on the disk for future reference.

I um.. am working on one :D
BUT
I can't say anything for now =(
I'll post a thread once I launch it on the Android Market, after all, some of the inspiration to make it was due to this forum and a few other very similar ones I frequent.
(and dvdranes idea is a great one as well, those micro sd cards are pretty dam durable and there's tons of docs out there to collect and put on one or a few, this case cover
this case is an awesome way to organize and secure a collection of sd/micro sd cards!)

Just got my first Smart phone, the Samsung Galaxy s II. It is pretty intimidating as all I've had is a basic flip phone.
Was just thinking about a post like this to find some good apps.
Thanks guys

I'm not that tech savy, but would like to learn, any tips?

These are great. I'm very happy with some of these. I think as more apps develop we add them here. Also maybe any way to use technology to aid in survival.

I know what you mean. I had a smart phone about 3 years back and Iam amazed at how much they changed. During that 3 years I had a motorola brute. DO NOT GET THAT PHONE! Its not durable at all. My Ipod touch 2nd gen is more durable. But now I have an ATRIX 2 and I love it so far.

Default apps?

i just got my first smart phone. i did not know that you had to be smart to use them. anyhow i was wondering if anyone has found an app or apps that would help a prepper. i did find a u.s. army survival book for free. haven't read much yet so i can;t tell you if it has any good info. i would think it could be a big help to a new guy like me.

Compass, MapQuest, Google Earth, AllTrails, EveryTrail, SAS Survival, Survival Guide, iFirst Aid, FlashLight, Around Me (navigation), Bullet Drop, 5-0 Radio, EM.Radio, Converter+, CH Lite, SpotPrice (PM prices), Web MD.

I believe each of these iPhone apps is free or has a free version (which is fine). I would also get the app for at least two of your local news channels.

I got the paid version of 5-0 Radio, and I think it's better than the free version. They even broadcast HAM repeaters on that app.

Black Gold for tracking oil prices
Kitco Gold Live for Gold and Silver prices
CNBC Live for Market (just got it today)
SAS Survival Guide Lite
PepID (Physician's Desk Reference in an app)
Free Wifi (find hotspots)
My Radar (Weather Radar)
Radio NOAA ( Weather Alert Broadcasts)
Weather Channel app
Disaster Alert (shows locations of disasters)
TuneIn Radio (stations)
iHeartRadio( again more stations)
NHK LIve (foreign news)
Aljazeera English (more foreign sources)
Compass
Mapquest
Google Earth

http://www.simplehelp.net/2010/06/22...uch-or-iphone/

someone posted a link in these forums that i've saved with a bajillion survival pdf's... using the app ibooks and then putting those pdf's on your iphone/ipod/ipad would probably eliminate the need for any other informational apps.
