I would guess there is a 'factory' calendar app on your phone already. Do you know that make/model? My last 3-4 phones have had one pre-installed.

There are lots of programs that will run without data. What kind of apps are you looking for? Don't forget that you can also load books/pdf files very easy for offline viewing.
i am not able to send or receive any data on this phone, i can only download from my laptop at home as i do not have Wifi here. there is a calendar, but i am not able to input appointments or schedules, it only shows me the current date.
the phone is a "Coolpad Rogue" i plan on getting a larger SD card to download some kindle books, that is an excellent idea.

I read a nice article about people buying cheap tablets/used phones, etc and making basically a digital library. I know there are a ton of free ebooks out there, from how to skin a deer to building houses/shelters, etc etc etc. And most ebooks... you want .epub format as these will automatically adjust to fit the size of the screen you're looking at them on, but most ebooks dont take up much space at all. If you get a tablet/phone with GPS, you can get Google maps, and download Offline maps, so you will always have a map, and a huge library of how to manuals. Get a solar charger, and store the charger and tablet/phone in a home made Faraday cage. And you're good to go.
