Default Lithium Ion Jumpstarter Gadget Hack?

Advertise Here

Has anyone used one of these specific models?

I really don't want to jump start my car, but need a 12V 6600 mAh battery that charges from USB like this apparently does.

Can I get 12V from the terminals, or does it want to see a storage battery connected?

What do you need the 12V for?

Duration and wattage?

To run a radio that requires 12V 3A TX and .08 A RX standby.

Someone asked same question on the manufacturers website and was told it would only jump a battery. That would only make sense if there was some protection circuit inside that will not energise an open or shorted circuit. The cable has a red box with some protection diodes in it. I am just wondering if anyone has used these to power 12V either directly or by hacking it.

There are other solutions, but I can get this product for some expiring credit card points.

I have 3 lithium jump packs but not those you listed.

The 12V clamps will not energize unless there is something like 8 volts on the battery to be jumped. I think this is to prevent an overheat within the lithium battery that could occur if amps withdrawn become too high as they would on a fully depleted battery.
It comes with a pin that allows you to bypass this feature, but you might have to keep it pressed the whole time.

One of mine has 2 special USB outlets (QC3) that will charge a 3 V up to up to a 12V Device. I have no idea how it knows, but that one might do what you want.

Oh, here;s how it knows.

Yeah it looks like it probably wants to see 8V on a 12V battery before the current will flow. I will probably need to hack it. If all the 12V protection is in the box on jumper cable I might get away with cutting that part off.

Have you considered buying a battery pack and charger that meets your needs instead of using something that was designed to start a car? If you only need 6.6ah max at 12vdc you might be able to get by on a gell cell.
I have a friend who carries a jump starter in his bike's saddle bags when a spare motorcycle battery takes up less space. He likes the slick package and flashing lights and would rather futz around with cables and clamps than loosening three screws and changing the battery.

Those are both workable options. The device I mentioned I can get "free" using some expiring credit card points.

I have two, one for small "4 cylinder" engines and
a second for "8 cylinder " engines
Both double as phone/tablet chargers
Both are small and handy
Really like them
Just used one on the Lawn Tractor
Had a dead battery and it started with ease
Recommend
Got them at walmart

Didn't look for the one you need, just threw up the first one for an example.

I went to the truck and put a meter on mine, older jump and go, and it reads 12.43V.

This thread made me realize that I need to update mine. I need something that I can charge with the USB cable I have for my phone.

P.S.
Make sure you get the correct leads. There seems to be 2 different ones.

I ordered it yesterday. I had some points expiring on my credit card so I ordered it to use as a 12V source for an old Motorola PX300-S lunch box two way radio. It will fit into the space where once a heavy NICAD battery resided. I like the fact it will charge from USB.

I'm thinking about getting the adapter that plugs into the jump pack.

They are cheap on Amazon. I will probably buy one with pig tails rather than cut up the supplied jumper cable, which may come in handy.
