The measure also prohibits driving ammunition across state lines, and institutes background checks for anyone looking to purchase bullets. The law requires sellers to track ammo sales electronically and submit records to the DOJ to be stored in the “Ammunition Purchase Records File.”
Will there be car searches at the borders? I see the ammo smuggling business booming in the future. Maybe instead of drugs the mexican cartels can switch to .22LR.
The DOJ may not accept the ammo information. I read something somewhere a while back that said they weren't really interested. Seems though they are talking about the California DOJ, which is a different story.
Wonder it the supreme court would consider the requirements as infringing..
I sorta smuggle ammo now.
From Live Free or Die State to The People's Republic.
LOL not really.
I just procure some .22 standard velocity CCI for my boss when he can't find it.
(That's what his gun "likes" in pistol league competition )
Yup. Been screaming about it in other threads... even started my own earlier in the year. People don’t seem to care. I ordered a bunch of ammo awhile back. The ammo is how they plan on catching people who haven’t registered guns.
They passed a law stating that it’s illegal to purchase ammo for calibers that aren’t registers to you. It’s illegal to purchase ammo for others and illegal to borrow or loan firearms; basically making impossible to justify a purchase of a caliber not registered to you.
So say Johnny law-abiding citizen built a perfectly legal AR-10, but doesn’t own any other .308 firearms. Then the whack jobs decide to mess with the laws regarding the scary black rifle yet again, and Johnny decides he refuses to bastardize the firearm or register it as required.
Johnny decides he wants some more ammo for the “ghost gun” and gets jammed up at the counter. “Sorry, you don’t have a .308 registered to you, so which law are you breaking?” Red flag is sent to the California DOJ.
How this hasn’t enraged gun owners in California, I’ll never know. The struggle is real and I’m growing tired of it. Hopefully my situation will change and I can either enjoy the newly formed state of Jefferson or be in position to get out by spring 2019.

Components will unfortunately be next in California. Just give them time. There will be limits on the number of primers and amount of powder you can buy.
This is the kind of liberal progressive crap that makes me sick and forever thankful I had the foresight during my first marriage to NOT succumb to my former wife's desire to move to CA. She was a San Diego girl.
California has become the model of the utopian socialist wet dream. At least the porn stars can continue to screw without condoms and starting tomorrow retail sales of marijuana begin.
ETA: if I am reading the new law correctly, I could be in violation of it simply by attending the PacFleet Matches on board Camp Pendleton since I would be transporting ammunition across state lines. So chances are no more participation in the Fleet Matches.
hasnt the supreme court already established that ammunition counts as "arms" and that trying to force somebody to register ammunition would be unconstitutional, and that recording sales in that manner to be a form of registration and why the feds are SUPPOSED to delete NICS information?.. seems california is openly and knowingly violating the constitution again...
there really needs to be penalties for elected officials and their employees that violate the constitution, whether intentional or not because theres no risk and nothing to lose, and a chance it wont be challenged
But I had considered, you know my "deal", I can't own a gun with my life the way it is. Last night my husband got drunk and tried to climb under the sink, thinking it was his bed. I can only imagine him drunk around any sort of weapon, not counting my crazy.
Anyway (shut up, Heather!), I had considered buying some ammo to use for barter, but decided against it. Can you imagine what would happen if I went on the radar buying ammo? I would have the mental health intervention team (a very nice group of people) at my door in no time flat.
I will make it a point to read the actual law and not the interpretation of the law as posted on some forum.
Since the new law apparently prohibits transporting ammo across state lines that means I am definitely done attending the PacFleet Matches (sorry Navy guys involved with this program. You do run a good match.) but I also wonder if it means California dealers such as Miwall who travel to gun shows will be affected. Creedmoor Sports and CSS both moved out because of the stupidity. I spoke with both Dennis Demille and Gary Eliseo about it. CA is just too gun unfriendly.
CT is another one of those states where the left outnumbers the right and they make it clear that "your kind isn't welcome here". A good friend of mine is originally from CT and he summed it up very well when we were all discussing the CT AWB:
"The objective of the CT AWB is not crime control, it is political control.
The real goal is to make the CT even more solidly blue. With that done, it is easier to accomplish the real goal - stealing and redistributing your wealth.
Passing the AWB was a way for the controlling party to weaken the opposition and consolidate power. Period. You were a target of opportunity.
The purpose of these types of laws is to make you to exercise Option 1 in order to ensure that Option 2 is completely impossible on all fronts. While I don't presume to speak to your individual political leanings, the fact is that gun owners are a GOP leaning group. The purpose of the AWB was to send a clear message to you and everyone who might share your likely opinions about how your state should be run:
• If you live here, GTFO. Take your friends with you. Leave your voter registration cards at the state line. Can't leave? You are disenfranchised roadkill. STHFU and be sure you pay up on April 15.
• If you don't live here, stay the hell out - we don't want people like you here because you make Option 2 more likely.
Red states do the same thing. "Bathroom Gender" laws are more about keeping liberals out of the jurisdiction than keeping perverts out of the stalls.
Welcome to cultural warrior politics."
California has set the standard for all other good little progressive states to follow.
Prop 63 also ......The boating accident claim wont work in Ca either. A weapon if lost and not disclosed within 5 days, is a crime. So when they knock on your door, it had to have happened that week.
Eh, it's none of my concern. California is a lost cause. About the only thing we could do is wall it off and expel it from the union.
My only concern is they spread like cancer into the other states and cause rot wherever they settle. Colorado for example. It's not far behind. If they want to ruin their own state, who am I to try to stop it. But they need to keep it to themselves and out of the rest of the country.
Disarmed by their government, "citizens" can quickly become "subjects".
It's probably too late for freedom-loving Californians to do anything but get the h*** out of there. That state is headed for a crash due to unfunded public employee retirement/pension liabilities and out-of-control immigration anyway. Real estate is also in the midst of a huge "bubble" right now, and with the new Federal tax changes, it's probably going to see some "correction" soon. Better get while the gettin's good!
I downloaded the report dated February 2017. It breaks down as follows:
- The total voter registration in the state increased from 17,717,936 to 19,432,609.
- The percentage of eligible Californians who are registered to vote increased from 72.7% to 77.9%.
- The percentage of voters who have no party preference increased from 23.6% to 24.5%.
- The percentage of voters registered with a qualified political party decreased from 75.6% to 74.9%.
- The percentage of voters registered with the Democratic Party increased from 43.2% to 44.8%.
- The percentage of voters registered with the Republican Party decreased from 28% to 25.9%.
The counties with the 10 highest percentages of Democratic Party, Republican Party, and No Party Preference registered voters are:
Democratic Party
San Francisco 57.72%
Alameda 57.60%
Santa Cruz 56.73%
Marin 56.01%
Sonoma 53.24%
Los Angeles 51.68%
San Mateo 51.67%
Monterey 50.32%
Contra Costa 50.27%
Imperial 49.59%
No Party Preference
San Francisco 31.06%
Santa Clara 30.12%
San Diego 27.89%
San Mateo 27.84%
Yuba 27.33%
Imperial 26.95%
Lake 26.87%
Mono 26.60%
Alameda 26.00%
Alpine 25.52%
Now, consider the population centers of some of those counties and its easy to see why the Republicans are getting beat. The Republican Party has been steadily losing ground since 2007 while both the Democrats and No Party Preference have seen gains. The No Party Preference has seen a 6 point gain while the Republicans have seen an almost 9 point drop.
CA, where I live, has instituted horrible gun laws in the past(which will hopefully be righted by the Constitution). NV has a gun show that sells so many wonders not allowed by CA. Personally I would NEVER bring anything from NV to CA but some maybe inclined and, as I have heard, it's not that hard.
Thank God I wised up in 1990 and moved to the Ozarks. Get out of town while the getting is good. Just before I moved I purchased an AR 15 H-Bar having a feeling they were going to be banned. Its going to get worse.
Loved the post on the party affiliation. With so many on welfare and Illegals worming their way into the system, its going liberal democratic all the way. Republicans failing to shrink government and their failure to cut government spending also turns off the conservative. I am conservative to the max but can't identify myself as a Republican.
The majority of Californians come from Latin/Hispanic cultures where only the police and assorted third world dictator types possess firearms, so they are very comfortable with a ban on firearms when it comes to the peasants.
Combine those voters with the leftists who run the state, and one can easily see how a California happens.
And those who point out California is the canary in the coal mine are correct; this is where the liberal/progressive/socialist utopian types in the U.S. look for guidance...
It's the same in MA. The liberals are allowing many thousands of immigrants to settle here illegally . It's a sanctuary state .
They come from countries that restrict gun ownership and have few rights . Mostly south America , India and the worst of the 3rd world hell hole countries .
These immigrants and "refugees" will never vote for conservative candidates . Add that to the way the democrats have split up and rigged voting districts so it's next to impossible for republicans to win and the lock on democrat power and control is assured . I'm guessing Calif. has rigged things in a similar way .
It's understandable but sad that many feel like California is a lost cause . Massachusetts can also be considered a lost cause . Extra sad because MA. is where the first shots were fired in the war for independence .
What does it say about people who think of themselves as patriots that would give up on states that have fallen into enemy hands .
I don't know what can be done about "lost cause" states but it's not good for the moral of patriots stuck in those states to hear so many ready and willing to abandon them .
QUOTE=comdot;17171522]The new tax law is going to factor into the future of California's demographics and their voting. Wait and see...[/QUOTE]
I am worried about them moving out because of the new tax implications regarding state, local, and mortgage interest deductions limitations. I worry some will move and bring their mindset with them.
Missoula Montana's recent attempt at gun legislation was exactly that...a former California resident moves here, gets into City council, teams up with the libs and then we had this stupid attempt at gun control that equated to a big waste of money and time because they don't know or understand how things work in Montana and they want to make their new home fluffy and "safe"
It was stupidity at a grand scale for these parts....all spearheaded by a Californian that moved here

It's funny the liberals I know that moved here from Cali think it's OK for them to own guns, just not for anyone else. They also can't understand that although I am not a ******* but a Texan, I don't consider being a ******* or a hillbilly an insult.
Sooner or later we will have to cut off Cali or they will rot the rest of the body. It's like a gangrenous foot.
I'm afraid the rot has already taken whole pretty much across the country. It's only a matter of time before it consumes the whole body. As has been said before, the left/progressives are like locust..
Sooner or later invade california for seceding from the union hang all the politicans da etc and burn hollwierd to the ground with the actors in it. Hypothetically speaking of course. ON second thought maybe N. Korea or Iran will get lucky and save us the trouble.
In other threads, I too was screaming about these new laws.
Over and above the unbelievable required background check for EVERY ammo purchase (with fees and wait period), the new laws are extremely restrictive:
NO online sales of firearms or ammo.
NO vertical grip on rifles.
NO collapsible stock.
NO mags >10 capacity. This is grandfathered in, so all those mags >10cap you own are now ILLEGAL.
Though I don't have a link, there were talks that monthly ammo purchases should be limited to 3x what your mag holds. Since your mag can only hold 10 max, one might be limited to purchasing a whopping 30 rounds per month.
Maybe not a total nightmare for 338 and larger, but friggin' crazy for 22LR.
I will not be one bit surprised when good law-abiding folks start getting TURNED DOWN when they REQUEST APPROVAL to buy ammo.
And YES, all ammo purchase requests will be "maintained in a CA DOJ database".
This alone will provide the libtards with invaluable data on gun owners and their demographics within the state.
Wasn't that long ago that CA was viewed as dingbat crazy for allowing gays to marry. Now it's most states along with support from SCOTUS.
Point is these draconian restrictive gun laws WILL be rolled out on a larger scale.
