As the title says. Im absolutely torn between getting an AR pistol chambered in 300 BO, or a PSA AK47. the ak i saw was about 550 and the pistol close to 500. I have about a 600 dollar spending limit. I really dont have a need for either, more of a want. All my roles for firearms are filled. 22,223,308,9mm, and 12 gauge. I do not reload and tbh, dont see doing that any time soon. Help me decide? and feel free to share experiences with either of them. Thanks!
Go with a 300 blackout " pistol" if you intend to suppress it. Mine makes for a nice little pkg as a dedicated SBR via night hunting.
No cans.........look below.
Anything else= AK. Especially if funds for ammo are tight.
Note: Mine is not a PSA, but Romanian.....next to M14S in pic below. Everyone should know how to shoot/ maintain an AK.
i do not have a suppressor. Maybe one day, just cant get over the wait time. I love AKs for what they are, but a 300 BO "pistol" seems like a fun package. Ammo price really isnt that much of a concern for me. Just really cant decide between the two! haha
I would personally go with the AK rifle. .300 BO is fun to shoot suppressed, but it's costly and to actually get that fun factor really going with it, you'll have to register something with the BATFeces. Registering anything remotely firearm related with the government is not a good thing to do in my opinion.
I don't have any experience with the PSA AKs, but that's likely what I'd go for.
If you make bad decisions in life and are poor, get the AK. It’s made to be neglected and will be welcome at the pawn shop multiple times if you get in a few binds. The superior peasant rifle of communist countries for 70 years, it won’t let you down. It will be a reflection of your easy going, worry about nothing personality.
If you are intelligent, a superior marksman, and as diligent in maintaining your gear as you are your mind and body, the AR pistol is for you. Soon you’ll be able to accessorize with night vision compatible lasers, IR lights? Optics, and suppressor. It will reflect your all American qualities that will Make America Great Again!
The above is tongue in cheek and meant to be humorous.
The more I think about it, I may be Leaning PSA AK. Like I said, I don't reload, no suppressor, ammo is more expensive. The 300 pistol just has a cool factor looming like an SBR
Oh I'll definitely get both at some point, just trying to decide which one for now. I have tried to find info on PSA aka (newer models) but can't find a whole lot that's recent. I saw the AK union video on YouTube and liked what I saw, just want to hear others opinion on it as well. Good or bad. Y'all are slowly talking me out of 300 haha!
5.56 out of an AR pistol will likely blow out your hearing, and certainly anyone’s hearing forward of you if you are not wearing ear protection.
Supersonic .300 out of an AR pistol may not blow your hearing.
Merits to an AR pistol, can be concealed in my state if a CHL holder, can be transported loaded etc. Wheras carbines & rifles cannot.
May prove benneficial to have the option to conceal an AR legally, so .300 would be my choice of your given options. (Mind that we are allready set for AK, pistols/rifles/fixed/folders 47’s & 74’s...course no pistol 74.)
Oh and we also have 5.56 AR pistols. Will likely be trading them, or just the uppers, off.
why not an AK pistol? you can get zastava M92s for about that price range and have a 7.62 AK pistol with a 10" barrel that uses ammo that is cheaper and easier to come by than .300 BO
The effects of rounds loaded for my 16" guns shot out of my 10.5" "pistols, are very similar on little critters at distances of 50-75 yards.
55 grain Nosler BT's over 4895 running around 3000 fps out of the 16" guns. Dont know what the actual velocities are out of the pistols, but the bunnies still turn into meat grenades when hit with them.
I wouldnt have any problems using my pistols for anything serious within reasonable ranges. And by that, Id say 150-200 yards and in are more than reasonable.
I think the .300 B/O has some merit in that barrel length too. The 5.56 really only wins in that it's more available. It'd probably do well enough with expanding or fragmenting ammo if you had to stick to commonality.
Of the two, if a decent AK can be had for $600, I think an AK folder in 7.62 isn't the worst thing a guy could have by any stretch. Been out of the AK game for a bit though, and while I was, prices went into the stratosphere and QC seems to have taken a dive. I really kick myself for having not bought 5 or 6 SAR-1's 10 years ago. Could have kept the best two or three, sold the others, and still broke even with a couple free AK's.
AR in 5.56 is my choice. AR mags are a lot easier to change out in a hurry, feel the bolt lock back, mag release, slap a new one in, hit the bolt release and fire. AK mags, you don't know your out until you pull the trigger and nothing happens, you have to grab the mag, pull it out, get another one, find the catch, rock it in, roll the rifle over and pull the charging handle. I can shoot 3 AR mags by the time I switch out 1 AK mag. Don't get me wrong, I own both and love them both, but AR is better for preservation.
As much as I like the AK's, I think the AR's make more sense. Especially now, with the proliferation of things available for them. Prices too.
AR in 300BO covers everything and is a lot more versatile, and readily available.
