Okay, let me first state that I have downloaded the app. My initial thought when first seeing the OP was 'gonna eat up all my battery' even if it is available offline. So, make sure there is a suitable means of recharging your phone eg., solar backpack or USB adaptor for a car... etc.

All the data from it should be stored in you head, no need to charge your brain up.

Apps are a great way to compromise your personal data and OPSEC.

Sure they can comprise data security, but as far as OPSEC, is it really a concern that black helicopters, will circle, and the government will try rounding up millions of people because they downloaded what amounts to a self help app? What about posting on here? I'd guess that it wouldn't be overly tough to track down most of us.

Not really worried about the helicopter's but what about tracking and other "malware".

Unlike using a website, in which you could have a VPN, phone apps generally require access to other data.

It's become quite common for apps to steal data, access PW protected sites, banking, etc.

That can be a concern, though I can't recall when an app has stolen money out of an account. That has its own protections. Privacy and data mining is the big one.

Though when you mentioned OPSEC, I didn't really see that as an issue. Fairly unlikely you would be "targeted" personally due to an app. Could also be at a higher risk of being pick-pocketed by the doctor when you take your pants off too...

A little paranoia is healthy, but I wouldn't want it to get in the way of a normal lifestyle in which a person can interact without constantly being on edge.

IMHO, having an app that might save someone's life who otherwise isn't very survival savvy, isn't a bad thing. Despite that many of them want to see what you're shopping for.

True but in this case, the app's source code is on github.

According to the author, the app is based on this field manual (PDF). From reading a comment in his github page, he seems to be a rabid anti-trumper and has some political comments in the app. So, if you don't want to see or support that, you are probably better off just downloading the PDF.
