We'd like to welcome you to the Survivalist Boards forum. We all hope you enjoy your membership here.

The purpose of this thread is to explain how some of the features of the forum work and how to navigate around the forum.

Some information that will help you enjoy the forum more fully. The rules are found HERE.

Link to the rules for the Survivalist Boards forum. Please take a few minutes to read the rules in order for you to more fully enjoy the forum.:
https://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=2

Different sections of the forum may have additional rules of guidelines. They will be found in the "stickies" at the top of the applicable section. The stickies are groups of threads set aside at the top of a section's index page.

Ignore user feature:
The first line of "defense" is the Ignore User feature, it is available in both the forums and in the chat room. This can solve many problems between two members, or a group of members.

Offensive material and spam:
Reporting offensive material and spam. Not all things are offensive to everyone, but what matters is if it offensive to you, and violates site rules.

To Report a Post:
Every post has a little icon in the upper righthand corner that looks like a little triangle, that is the report button. Please include a brief description of the problem when reporting.

Grievance section
This section is only viewed by the moderators and site security, no other members can see what you post. If you have a specific issue with a moderator or security you can feel free to PM that person directly. This section is for anything or any problem you may have with anything site related. It allows you to include information regarding your problem, report or complaint and also allows you to remain in contact with the administration of the site throughout the grievance process.

Administration contact
This is the contact list for moderators, please feel free to contact them.

https://www.survivalistboards.com/showgroups.php

Toward the bottom of the list are the Staff Members and Super Moderators. They are the ones to contact if you have a question and do not wish to file a report in the Grievance Section.
If you have any questions for the Moderator Team, you can use the Grievance Section Forum and create a topic. If you would like to PM a moderator, click on the above link, and on the far right, click "Send PM".

Please understand that there are a few other ways to help site administation in running this site, but it does boil down to the users SELF policing this site, just as much as it relies on security and moderators. Without members activly participating in the SELF policing of the site the moderators, security and site owner would be hard pressed to read all posts, respond, and correct all problems in our community.

Default Updated Forum Information For New Members - Please Read

New Members must make at least 5 (five) post in the forum before they can access to the whole site.

Certain functions of this site will be disabled until these five post are made. These 5 post can be replying to a thread, starting new threads or any combinations there of.

These disabled functions include:
Can not download files
Can not access the chat room
Can not list items in the store
Can not add links to the links directory
Can not use the private message system
Can not use the "Thank You" system

Why are these features disabled?

We had people signing up and spamming out Private Messages (PMs) asking other members to visit their website. When a Private Message is sent to a member, that member receives an email that they have a new PM. So those spammers were using the email feature of this site to spam with. We had people sign up and download files from the downloads section and not even post a thank you. In some cases more then 50 files were downloaded in one visit.

This also prevents spammers from posting their spam messages in the picture gallery or trying to hide it off the beaten path.

We had a couple of people sign up and started spamming the chat room right off the bat with "visit my site" types of messages.

To try and weed out the spammers, a 5 post requirement was put in place.

All new members should at least introduce their selves in the new member introduction section.

Or use these links to jump to a certain category that interest you.

I will also ask all our members here to post in the proper section. I know sometimes it’s hard to find the right section for a subject that covers many areas, but sometimes I become crazy when I find a knife discussion posted in the political section (just an example.) Please use your best judgment.

Thank you,
Bogdan

Please click the image to enlarge the picture if you need to in order to see the notes clearly.

Some additional information that may help you to find your way around the forum.

When looking at a post here are some points that may help you.

1 - Post number, this is the number of a post within a thread.

2 - Report Icon - there is one of these buttons on every post on the forum. If you find a post that breaks the rules of the forum, click this button. This will create a report in the Grievance and Security section of the forum. There will be a place for you to briefly describe what you think is wrong with the post. This will create an open line of communication between the reporter and the Moderator and Staff team. This thread of communication is private and restricted to only the member filing the report and the Moderators and Staff. You may not always get the resolution you wish when you file a report but every report is investigated.

3 - User ID of the member posting - If you click this User ID, several choices will pop up.
*The member's User Profile - helpful to get to know other members. This is also the path to placing a member on ignore if you find it necessary. Click User Profile, then on their profile page click User Lists then Add to Ignore list. There are personality conflicts from time to time in any large group. This feature allows you to enjoy the forum without the drama of a member you may find yourself unable to deal with.
*Send A Private Message - this is where you can initiate a private communication with another member.
*Find All Posts by this Member - this is where you can find a listing of all (or at least the most recent 500) posts made by a member. This is a nice feature when you find a member whose posts you enjoy and want to find more of their posts.
*Add the Member to your Contacts - this is the fastest way to make a "friend" request of another member.

4 - EDIT - If you make a mistake you need to correct or think of something you need to add to a post, this button will open your post back up for the changes. You can only edit posts you made yourself.

5 - QUOTE - this button will open a reply frame and include as a quotation the post you are looking at now. This can be helpful in directing a response to a particular post.

6 - +" - this button is used to make a multi-quote in a post. If you wish to quote and address multiple posts, click this button on each of the posts you wish to quote, except the last one. The last post of the group, click "Quote" and a new post will open with the chosen posts in quotations.

7 - Q'REPLY - this button takes you directly to the posting frame within the thread.

8 - SHARE - this button allows you to share a link to a post on your Facebook account. The post will not appear on your Facebook account but a link to the post will show up.

To the right of the SHARE button on any post other than one you made yourself is a button labeled THANKS. Click this button to let members know your appreciate their contribution, their effort or just to let them know you agree with them.

Subscribing to a thread:

If you want to follow a thread and have it show up in your User CP list when a new post is made, you can simply subscribe to the thread.

To do that, go to the line directly above the first post on a page in a thread you want to follow. Click "Thread Tools" then select the fourth option "Subscribe to this thread."

You will then be given 4 choices of notification:
"No email notification" - when a thread has new postings you have not viewed it will be listed under your User CP, but like the option says, you will receive NO email notification of new posts.
"Instant notification by email" - every time anyone posts in the subscribed thread, you will get an email notifying you there is a new post.
"Daily notification by email" - once a day an email is sent out letting you know there were posts made in that thread
"Weekly notification by email" - same as daily except only once a week

Posting in a thread will automatically subscribe you to a thread with the defaults selected on your User Panel. This method will not ask you which options you want.

You can also unsubscribe from a thread if you no longer wish it to show in your User CP. The unsubscribe option is available in the same place the Subscribe button is located. You will also see Unsubscribe as an option for every thread in your User CP.

-------------
To set the default method of subscription notification, follow this path:

User CP
- Settings and Options (left side section)
- - Edit Options (click)
- - - center of page about halfway down: Messaging & Notification
- - - -Default Thread Subscription Mode (second box)
- - - - - How your subscriptions are automatically handled is a drop down menu selection there.

Remember to then go to the bottom of the page and click "Save Changes" or you just wasted your time.

Default Using the search function:

The search function on the forum is a wonderful aid in finding information or ongoing threads to ask your questions. If you are new to the type search function used on the Survivalist Boards forum, perhaps these instructions will assist you:

The SEARCH button is one of the hot link buttons in the top row of green stripes just down from the top of the index page.

To perform a search, you would -

- click the SEARCH button in the row described above
- - This will produce a drop down menu, one of the choices is ADVANCED SEARCH, click it

This will bring up this page: (click the picture if you need it larger to see)

To the left there is a KEYWORD block. Type in what you are searching for in this block. The dropdown menu below the keyword block has two choices - "Search entire thread" and "Search titles only." Search titles only will give you the cleanest selection of results. The keyword block is word specific so if you are searching for information on dehydrating foods, you might want to try different searches, such as: dehydrate, dehydrating, dehydrated because depending on the person posting the information it could be under any of those.

Once you have made your selections, choose SEARCH NOW toward the bottom of the screen. The results will be a list of the threads with the word you searched in the title. You can select your choice to read by clicking the thread title.

---
As a note, you can also search for posts made by any particular forum member. Use the right hand block "User Name:" and type in the user name. It has a drop down feature so as you type the name it will offer suggestions of registered members. The User Name has to be spelled exactly as it is registered for you to find results. That is one reason the drop down suggestion feature is so handy, it will assist you in finding a member's posts.

The other method of locating posts by User Name is explained in #3 of Post 6 in this thread.

Default Using the Ignore Feature

The Ignore feature is a handy tool for members. There are times you will not want to see a certain other member's posts. Personality conflicts exist even on the internet. If you decide to "Ignore" the postings of another member, it is a simple setting change. The ignored member cannot tell they are on ignore, no one is notified, you will simply not see the body of their posts. Any time you are reading a thread and a post was made by a person you have on ignore, a block shows that the ignored person posted and gives you the opportunity to view that post temporarily anyway. There will also be a place to remove that person from your ignore list if you wish.

To add a person to ignore, follow these steps. You will most likely decide to put someone on ignore when you are reading something that person posted.

Click the person's user name in the top left of the post block.
--From the drop down menu that appears, click "View Public Profile"
---Once you are on their profile page, on the first dark line under the member's User Name, there are some choices to click. The second one is "User Lists" - click it.
----From the drop down menu that appears, the last choice is "Add to Ignore List" - click it.
------You will then be asked to confirm whether you wish to ignore that person? Yes or No

To review your Ignore List, go to the main index page, look at the first dark line of choices, and the one all the way to the left is "User CP" - click it.
-----Down the left side of the page now, there is a list of choices, grouped together. Under the "Settings and Options" group, the last choice is "Edit Ignore List" - click it.
-------From there, your list of Ignored Members will show up, allowing you to remove the member from the list, leave them as they are currently, or you can add a member to your list by keying in the member's name, spelled correctly and following the menu.
