Actually that could depend on a number of factors, is it a study or a survey, age of study persons, methods of questioning, checking on types of undies, etc. Just look at all the amusing posts made here in response to said study/survey. One could have a real hoot interviewing some on this topic! Probably should not blush easily either!

I change underwear once a day. Some cases more. How old is the underwear? Some of it years old. But i throw away worn underwear readily. I buy a few packs each go and then use the older ones as a backup if laundry is not done. Trying not to be like my father who believed bathing led to hair loss. Who also when challenged about dirty t shirts would put the dirty one on backwards to show a cleaner side.

My brother worked in a machine shop with this dirty old guy. He was disgusting. One day he was working on a lathe with a nasty fish oil as coolant and had a stripe up the front of his shirt from it being slung off the chuck.. did I mention this oil had a stink to it?

The next day the guy is back at work, now the stripe is on the BACK of his shirt, he just turned it around...

The problem with that plan is it makes it real hard to reach the pocket.

I don't buy this. So how often are people bathing? They then put on old underwear?
I do have underwear over a year old, i generally buy a new supply once a year or so.
When I was like 8 or 9, I went through a phase where I didn't want to change my underwear. No idea why. But mom would always lay out my clothes on my bed, and I'd shove the underwear between the side of the bed and the wall.

When mom finally found out... boy did I get a spanking. And she made sure I put on clean underwear before she spanked me, too!

Here's a little advice from the ancient Romans:

Semper ubi sub ubi

(Always wear underwear)

If you don't wear underwear you can't get that extra day with your outerwear.

i may switch to underwear that use blends of polyester/spandex or merino wool just to get away from the disadvantages of cotton

Nothing wrong with 100% cotton underwear, i look for that feature. It breaths better and draws any moisture from that area. I do have colored and white, white gets bleach. Colored just gets washed but i do use washing soda, too.

Store brand works for us.

I use free and clear detergent because we can get irritated with the other stuff.

I don’t believe the article. I change my underwear at least once a day. More if I go to the gym.

I buy gay underwear. At least the marketing seems to target gay men. But it’s the BEST most comfortable underwear I’ve ever worn. Briefs and boxer briefs that are breathable , some even have mesh venting. And they have a pouch for your jimmy that keeps it from chafing or flopping around if you are working out or running etc.

They are kind of expensive but last for a long time. Just have to be careful and get the plain black ones that don’t have “ daddy’s boy “ written in pink on the waistband or “ slave “ across the ass.

I have to ask, WTF is gay underwear?
Is the opening in the back or something?

I can only imagine.

It took a while to find something that works for my husband but he is happy. I just use the unscented detergent when I do the underwear.

It looks like Duluth trading has some decent selections if you have a little $$. I am on a Walmart budget here, I spend all my disposable on the cats.

I shower about 3 times a week. That's how often I change my undies... BUT, being a woman, I wear thin pads in them. I change those once or thrice a day.
I have a lot of skin sensitivities and allergies. My body lets me know when something is "dirty". I have to either go barefoot or change socks twice a day. And I'm a ridiculously sedentary person. I do sleep completely naked though. I guess that helps prolong the usefulness of my drawers.

Replacing them though? 10 years is average unless they lose their elastic or get a hole in them (which usually only happens towards the end of that time).

As for bras... I didn't have much to work with until I gained some weight in my 30's. I've worn one only a few times my entire life. "They're medieval torture devices, invented by men to keep women "down"."- has always been something I've said, in jest, about bras.
I do, however, wear undershirts or a vest whenever I'm in public. Heaven forbid someone sees the outline of a nip through my clothes :P
