I can think of two times going out to eat where we didn't tip. One was at a local restaurant, mom and I had gotten fish fry, and the waitress forgot all about us. The cook dropped off our food (not the waitress), and by then our drinks were empty and she never came back. They weren't busy and she was off to the bar sitting down talking to the guy working the bar. She never once came over to see if we needed anything (we needed water, more tartar sauce). We had been done eating for a good 15 minutes before mom finally said I guess she isn't coming back and we went up to the front to pay. The only thing the waitress did was take our order and bring us water in the beginning.

The other time was at Olive Garden. Mom and I went for the unlimited pasta and breadsticks. This had to have been 10 years or more ago. We can go through a ton of sauce. We had asked the waitress if it cost for more sauce - she said she didn't think so. Turned out a small cup of Alfredo sauce was $2.50. We had gotten 6 of them over the course of the meal, thinking they were included. The waitress brings the bill at the end and says, and when we asked about the $15 for sauce, "oh, sorry, I guess they are extra." So we didn't leave a tip.

If I lived close enough to where they would deliver pizza to I would tip in weed. Every pizza delivery person I knew smoked and would go the extra mile for a couple of joints. I worked at a pizza place for a year and traded pizza for weed many times.

We make our own pizza and not because no one will deliver where we are, it's because no one makes it as good as ours.

I'm not a toker but have no issues with people that indulge. I have no doubt that many delivery drivers would gladly take a tip in that form.
However, I am a business owner and wonder if the you paid the company for the pizzas you traded weed for.
I'm not calling you out, I'm just curious.

He does if he wants to keep his job. You see, in many places in the world, you get paid for your job by your employer, and if you try things like saying "screw it, i'm getting paid anyway" they do something called firing you .

Never understood why you don't expect people to do a decent job while providing them with an actual wage. I'd expect everyone in a company to just do their best. Not to get basically an "what's in it for me if i do my job adequate or well instead of sabotaging it?"

I'll tip around 25%. It's worth it to have a hot pizza delivered. We only have one place that delivers where I live and only if you buy a minimum order of at least $20. But it's still a nice perk around here.

On Veterans Day, my wife and I went to Texas Roadhouse for lunch. They do the free lunch for vets so we go. I figure we probably go there about 20 times a year and spend a lot of money so I don't mind taking that offer.

Anyway we ended up sitting at the bar instead of waiting for a table and we had no less than 10 Marines who came in and sat near us. We ended up spending almost 3 hours there which probably upset the bartender since they make most of their tips on a rather fast turnover in a place like that. People sit, have a drink and then go to them table to eat.

My wife asked for the check and also for those of all the Marines. She calculated what the cost of the meal would have been had we bought lunch (drinks not included obviously- those we bought) and left her a 80 dollar tip after paying for everyone's drinks to that point. The bartender said she couldn't take that much. I looked at her and said, "Yes you can. You said your Dad was a Marine and you went out of your way to take care of us and frankly made our day. So we all thank you for making this a special day for a bunch of old Marines."

She teared up a little. The other Marines heard what I said and saw what we did and how she responded. They didn't leave when we did and they stayed a while and had more drinks and they probably tipped her very well also. Special service requires special tips!

Best day I had in years, two Korean vets, three Vietnam vets, two Iraq and one Afgan vet plus a few still in. We all told stories and mingled for hours. There was also two Corpsmen who may not be Marines, but we loved our Corpsmen so they get the same respect. Many Semper Fi's were exchanged.

Situational, but as a general rule 15-20%.

Sometimes nothing. Sometimes more. Depends on quality, correctness, and speed of order.

If I can tell my pizza is cold and they took 2 hours to deliver it after a 20-30 minute guarantee and they are missing 1/4 of the order, Iíll tip nothing and probably not order from them again.

If they get here super quick, everything is spot on, and they are extra courteous/friendly, Iíll throw them $10-12 on a $30 order.

You gotta work for tips. Itís not an entitlement.

Never had a pizza delivered before. We only have pizza if we go out for one of the grand kid's birthday or I make it at home.

Better than treating people as disposable.

Do soldiers get tips? Police? Ambulance?

A whole bunch of professionals seem to manage without extra gratuitys.

1. I live too far out to get it delivered.
2. I make better pizza than they can deliver.

LOL..... Right, like someone is going to deliver pizza wayyyyyyy out here....

I just make my own pizza, cheaper and tastier.. Even if they did deliver it is almost an hour drive from the nearest pizza place, it would be just as fast to make it myself.

Iíve always just tipped a few dollars. When ordering, I never lived more than five minutes down the road. Now I live in the sticks and there is no delivery of any sort.
