I don't like to tip, so I don't order out (not to mention, only DoorDash delivers to my address, cuz I'm so far out). I also don't like to tip in restaurants, so it's not often that I go to places where you tip.

But when I do go, I tip because I'm not a jerk. I'm a cheapskate, but not a jerk.

Two weeks ago I actually did get pizza delivered. The first time I ever got food delivered to my house. Of course, that was only through a promo offer that got me $30 off my first order with DoorDash. And I left a good tip. I gave him a little over 15%, but really he got more. I guess DoorDash tells the driver a minimum they will earn for each delivery, but any tip the customer leaves through their card is included - so if they said they'd earn $10 for that delivery, and I leave a $6 tip through DoorDash, then DoorDash only pitches in $4 and he earns $10. But if I give him the tip in cash, DoorDash will give him the full $10. When I gave him the cash, he was very appreciative of it.

Tipping is about service.

I have no sympathy for servers/delivery drivers. For every story about a bad tipper you have, I have one where an entry level employee with no discernable job skills other than carrying things and smiling comes home with $5-700 from a single nights work.

Especially since a lot of these jobs pay minimum wage, I think it's insane we have to pay certain segments of the service industry a premium just to not spit in or defile our food.

I guess next I should tip my nurses to get my medication at the ER faster?
Do we tip the people at McDonald's? They are food workers?

All the rules on tipping dont apply to a lot of society any more....unless tipping is based on service alone.

But amazing how someone posts of being so remote. But is online 20 hours a day. Obviously not so remote. Im guessing...in town. Lmao
There's something called satellite internet. You could be 100 miles from the nearest town and still get internet.

I do and not advocating against any tipping. However, are both performing the same task of bring you your food? One has more expense and liability to accomplish it, however.

20%. If the delivery person is a college student, I always add another 5 bucks 'cause I remember what it was like being a poor college kid.

When I still ate the SAD diet (Standard American Diet), I tipped $5.00 or $6.00 for a single, extra large pizza. I'm on Keto now so I'm saving a lot on food since I make my own these days.

WITHOUT SATELLITE service, no TV(Dish), no internet(Dish), without cell towers no phone(Verizon.. the ONLY cell that works in the area).
We cannot get local broadcast tv from a regular station we are so remote.

I am almost 20 miles from the nearest pizza place that delivers in a 5 mile radius.
Would kill for a Pizza Hut within decent range.

We haven't had pizza, or any other food item, delivered in over 20 years.

I truly cannot remember the last time ANY thing was delivered to our home outside of UPS/FedEx/USPS, etc.

Buddy came and picked me up and made a sport of how many free meals we could score. I think 6 + deserts in about 12 hours.

My wife comes from a country where people do not tip. I examined to her that in this country we tip and this family tips. Now she does.
Nice. Was this some sort of cook the man some eggs kind of conversation?

No we give delivery drivers decent wages so they don't have to beg the customer for more money.

That is just degrading.

Another one with no home delivery. A couple places will meet customers at the school a couple miles closer to town.
Here in the village we have three churches, a Post Office and a General Store. And we have internet. The store does make deli sandwiches and stuff.
If I am somewhere like my shop and order for delivery, I do the $5 or 20% thing.

As normal.... You've got it all wrong.

Tips are intended to be "To insure promptness",

I've known women who got degrees, who didn't use them and kept waitressing because they made MORE money there than their professional degree!

With me the tip is entirely up to them. I've left a $0.02 tip, and one that was more than my steak dinner.

Places I've gone to regularly typically learn this, and I get excellent service, they make way more than your "decent wages"

Deal, that's what I do with the Walmart delivery.

I tip cash in my driveway, then I leave a small, cheap, tip on the computer. I have strong doubts about them getting that e-tip so I prefer to give cash. But I don't want to look like a non-tipping jerk, either.

I have never had a one complain about it, either. It works for us.

I will try to give the mail lady/ups a bottle of water or something, usually they say no, though.
