![]() I already painted the mags for this one when I painted the other rifle, and all the mag base colors were done pretty
much the same...so the left upper side was done in medium brown and the right side was done in green. So I wanted to paint the magwell on this one so that the mag colors would match up, and not abruptly change and have a straight line where the mag and magwell meet. So I cut a strip stencil out and used the negative part on the brown side, and the slightly modified positive part on the green side...and just wrapped them around the magwell. Here is the stencil drawn and cut... ![]() Here is the negative and positive parts wrapped around the magwell... ![]() So now all 10 mags that I painted will work in either rifle and look pretty much the same. Here is the result, showing how the mag colors meet up... ![]() Here it is about half way done...Some more dark brown, off white, and medium brown highlights still need to be put on... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here it is done, after the highlight colors have been added... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's both of them together... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hope this helps...GOOD LUCK! ![]() |

![]() Not really...spent an afternoon so far. Hit the store, 30 minutes drawing and cutting the stencils, 30 minutes prep time, and then maybe 3 hours on the cardboard sample. I waited a while between layers and free-handed everything.
It will take a lot longer on the actual rifles and gear because I will let each layer sit like 6 hours, and then all the gear will sit for like a week to make sure its good and set. |

![]() i would get a toy rifle and pratice on it at least do a couple of differnt patterns and such until you feel comfortable about doing your weapon
![]() side note : i would lean toward lighter/softer colors like multicam is |

![]() if you want a flat/matte color but only have gloss colors available go over the dried paint with fine grit sandpaper to take off the shine.

![]() Day 3: BY GEORGE, I THINK I GOT IT!
So I have Sample 2, and I think I got it. Check out the pics My original color #1 became my new #3 (it had a little green in it) and I found new colors at Home de-pot for #1 and #4 - and I think its dead on. I have my painting style down, and I'm half way through painting a plastic toy shotgun (don't ask) Pics to come! New color List-- Lined up like in the pic: Base: 1. Light brown (Home de-pot) 2. Darker brown (Walmart) Middle: 3. A sort of light pea-green (WM) 4. A avocado green faded into (Home de-pot) 5. A darker green (WM) Top: 6. The really light tan (WM) 7. The really dark brown (WM) Total cost so far: About $60 and I should get through most of my gear with it. Enjoy! |

![]() Day 3 - Part 2
I had an orange toy shotgun lying around...again, long story. It looks like the pattern works well on the curves as well. ![]() I may actually try my Ka-Bar kydex sheath this weekend ![]() |

...did you say range day ![]() ![]() Maybe it's time to re-join the land of the living, and showing your group would be a pleasure. The only real hard part is finding the EXACT color combination. I have 2 stores and exact colors from each to get it to work. I like multicam because of how it sort of adapts to it's background - and I don't want 4 different sets of gear for different settings. That said, I think multicam for general, regular woodland for night, and something with more browns for "winter" would be the wish-list for our area. But that just gets silly. I may experiment with custom sniper veils and some camo add-ons. |

![]() I think I'm going to kick my son out of his room to paint it in multicam (won't tell him that part) and tell him he can't see it until I'm done so it will be a surprise. He'll be the envy of all his friends.
Being able to paint like that would seem to be a really awesome SHTF skill to have! Great going guys and thanks for posting! ![]() |

![]() isnt there a clear coat or a sealer you can cover the paint to help protect it from scratching & peeling .
does these paints keep it from rusting? |

![]() I'm pretty sure it protects against rust unless you get a good deep gash that digs into the metal.
Clear coat - not sure, I want to see how this first batch holds up. And I need it really really NOT gloss ![]() |
