I would say every one needs to get a ham radio license. I promise it will be standing line of communication in any disaster.

Ham radio operators always come through after hurricanes and other disasters.

I have my license, they are easy to get, especially since you don't have to know Morse code anymore.

I'm a great leader and always able to keep people steady, many people use me as their personal shrink, I should get a degree and get paid lol. I've got weapons training, I can cook surprisingly well. I'm good at growing crops. I can interrogate people, they find me very, persuasive.

EDIT: I don't mean torturing, I'm good with words is what I meant.

katwolf, I suggest felting the wool that you use for batting, it will lock the fibers to each other so that they won't move around as much (beats having to stitch a million half-inch squares to lock them all down!)

I'm getting old, so I have a good list,

EMT-Basic (expired this year, but considering upgrade)
ground search & rescue
cooking (wood fire, coals, etc)
hunting
gutting/skinning
fishing, inland waters or shore
cleaning/scaling
carding wool
felting
spinning - drop spindle or wheel
weaving
pottery (I was just looking at plans for a budget kick-wheel last week, I want to build it SO BAD!)
hand sewing
'expedient' shelter building
winter conditions survival
some desert survival
growing vegetables (but can't grow fruit worth a darn, I have to plant trees and hope they "take")
canning
multiple ways to make a fire
shooting pistol or rifle
some hand to hand - prefer firearms
