Hey fellas. I am having problems with a persistent popup video whenever I go into threads, every time. It is slowing down the browser to a crawl and I can only see a few lines in a post. Do I have a setting wrong? I am using Chrome on Linux Mint, all the settings are set to kill popups. and this is the only site I am having issues with.

Am I doing something wrong?

That is the one or two in this case! Always with gun stuff (not that I hate guns or anything) but friggin annoying. The one in the middle is on a lot of sites which is why I do not go to those sites anymore.

Banner ads do not bother me. They are at the top and there have been several times where I followed them and learned something new or even bought something. But these new ones are a deal breaker for me.

To update. I just downloaded Adblock plus into Chrome. Easy and painless and it is supposed to work on most other browsers.

The site admins may still want to look at this issue. If someone slipped in some malicious code easily, then security needs to be addressed quickly before a virus is inserted.

I wont put a direct link for adblock, but you only need to goggle it. Your browser should take care of the install.

To site admins, this is the bulk of the source code causing the problem and I would also like to point out one major area of concern in the code: data-friendly="false" Is mentioned several times. What does that mean?

I've been getting the pop-up gun ad on this site for the past 2-3 days. It happens when I'm using my laptop but not when I'm using my phone - maybe because I use the desktop app on laptop and the mobile app on phone?? IDK.

It is always in the lower-right corner of the window. It IS annoying, but I have found I can get rid of it by clicking on it and then going back to it and closing it by clicking on the "X" in the upper-right corner of the pop-up window.

You still have the ghost mute button middle to lower left?

Right click the video and go into properties and just keep left clicking the video box and deleting in the editor till it's gone.

Same thing here. Odd that some are experiencing this and not others. I have run malware, and not the problem. It seems this is a forum monetary program they added...

I did some more research and the video comes from a source that touts "3500+ websites" are enrolled in the video advertising program.

Same thing with script blocker for chrome. The nice thing about script blocker is it has a toggle switch so when I want the scripts to work on Ebay for example, just tap the pause ll button, and when I'm back here, tap the ll button again.

The irony here is the desire to drive more revenue has reached a level that lead the masses to download products that removes all the ads... I didn't mind the banner ads either.

But the pages load a lot faster especially when I need to tether to my hotspot.

We would love to do something about it, unfortunately we do not have the ability to do anything about it.

Thanks for the honest reply MTShawn.

I don't mean to bag on the volunteer admins, so I apologize for that. I mis-worded that response. I assume your role is basically moderating / policing... working with what you're given to work with. Sort of like NFL refs enforcing stupid the bad rules handed down to them from the NFL's owners and rules committee.

Yes, I understand there are costs involved, with running a site like this. I have no idea how much that amounts to though. Apparently the merchant fees and VIP memberships aren't bringing in enough cash for the monetary expectations of the owner. You refer to "they" .. I thought this was Kev's site. Apparently there are more involved.

Either way, I had considered supporting financially in the past with the vip level but will never do so until the ridiculous ban on the dreaded word / topic that shall not be named is rescinded. Survivalist minded folks are largely right of center and that is very much a right of center value that blends in with all the rest of the normal mindset of personal responsibility that reflects self reliance and EP.

I will take the time to figure out how to block this stuff, just didn't figure that should be necessary after all these years. It's not that big of a deal in the big scheme of things. Cheers!
