I have an AR15 upper in 7.62x39 using BCM and KAK components. An 11" barrel and BCG from KAK. KAK specifically designs their barrels and BCG to reliably shoot steel case ammo. I highly recommend them for building an upper.

How popular is the Ak-47 amongst semi-auto fans in the US? Large following, insignficant alongside Ar-15 ?

I love the simplicity, the iconic lines, the varied military makers, all the accessories, furniture and magazine types and looks, plus there's no better way to show who won the war than possessing the arms of the former enemy.

Finally look at today's AK prices and compare these to the other common rifle. Demand is up and supply is limited for the military arsenal made AK. Get thee one and you'll soon want two!

I like the AK well enough. I do get a kick out of the arguments over which brand or style of AK is better.

Not to put too fine a point on it...All AK's eat cheap ammo and crap steel cases. What's not to like about that?

All the eating habits of a Glock with twice the effective range. My AK was a cheap POS but it was fun to shoot. One jam in 4k rounds. I actually sold it for twice what I paid for it in very early 2013. Probably hasnt been fired since.

I am not going to pay $600 for an AK, when I can get a S&W Sport AR-15 for around the same price.
Your continued insight is both timely and digestible. We are blessed to have a man with a short name but long on talent. Bravo!

I have both a Colt LE6920 AR15, a Russian 5.56mm Saiga (based on the AK design) converted to accept AR15 magazines, and a 5.56mm Keltec SU-16C piston rifle that takes AR mags. If I had to do it all over again I would just go for a Russian made (semi) AK and the 7.62 cartridge. Simpler design, more reliable (though heavier),and while the AR is more accurate at long range, the common M193 or M855 5.56mm cartridges will nor reliably fragment at ranges over 150 yards. Which makes for only icepick holes at long range, negating the usefullness of the AR15s' long range accuracy. The 7.62 x 39 berdan primer cartridge is much harder to reload, but it can be done. PSA is supposed to come out later this year with their 5.56mm AK47, and I will be the first guy in line to buy one.
