If you go with a 5.56 caliber remember short barrel weapons require different ammo, then longer barrels to be as effective.

What about the FNH FS2000? Wouldn't that fit the bill?

If you're not buying firearms for their purpose then buy whatever you want. If you don't care about functionality then knock yourself out.
I could tell you he's either trolling or not serious. Seriously considering a heavy semi auto pistol that fires from an open bolt.

If you want a high powered pistol or SBR, I read a technicial article on the low speed characteristics of the 7.62x39 when fired from a short barrel. Its performance doesn't degrade nearly as fast as lighter rifle bullets.

Here is an option from Turner Fabrication for $1k less. http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct861.aspx

Vector makes one that sits in the middle price wise: http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct902.aspx

If you like the HK style and want a little more punch look at the V51-P or V53-P. Vector makes/made very good HK style firearms. I had a V51-P for several years. It ate any ammo I fed it and was absolutely lethal to the deer population!

V51-P: http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct520.aspx
(Can use HK94 sized handguards)

V53-P: http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct525.aspx

I love the H&K design. It's beautiful and simple. The only thing I don't like is the PRICE! even for the clones.
