Yeah. It's a thing. Not any different than a radio show having a call in on a topic. Not really a bad thing though. He actually does a pretty good job with his thread ideas. Probably better than most of the amateur ones. Kinda his job to strike up interesting conversations and he provides the service.

Love how the op wants people to take this seriously while....obviously not taking it seriously by heading out to the packed recreation areas.

Strange.

Me? Just going to continue as I have throughout this nonsense. I'm starting to enjoy the antics I'm seeing out here in different states.

Not until Christmas, just until the elections. They will crash and burn our nation to the ground in the effort to gain control. It has even been stated as such in the past.

The trolls pile up so much spam that you have to emphasize things to counter their influence. It's either do a very thorough job of censoring the trolls (and then get called ugly names for it), or stack up some of the more legitimate portion of the conversation.

Amen to that. I think most people did take it seriously in the beginning.... Until it became clear the lockdown was more about politics than public health...
and these know-it-all government officials kept blowing their estimates....
and got caught without plans to reopen...
and the talking heads got caught violating their own advice...
and officials started padding the death numbers...
and started moving the goal posts on what was supposed to be a temporary shut down to "flatten the curve"...

I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't be taking this seriously anymore.

But wait... it's not over yet... the doomporn addicts are at it again, claiming "oh, oh... this wave was nothing, wait until the virus mutates and the second wave hits this fall... WE'RE ALL DOOMED!"

Flying is a bit weird, compared to before.

Just flew from Southern Oregon to South Carolina.

Airports require masks.

Airline required masks onboard, except if eating or drinking. No food or beverage service on any flights. They did have free mini bottles of water for those whom wanted them, and 1 small mini snack.

Turbo prop flight 1, seating 2 per side, airline cut down capacity to only 1 per side. Unless flying together & attested to such at booking.

Flight 2 2 seats one side, 3 seats other side. 2 seat side only filled 1 seat, 3 seat side middle row empty. Again, unless booked flying together.

Plane boarding was by seat, rear to front.

Alaska airlines both flights. Other airlines may differ.

I imagine pricing will have to go up, & go up quite a bunch, if the social distancing on flights is kept in place.

TSA is to start temperature screening at some airports using crowd scanners. Some airlines will be repeating temperature checks just prior to boarding.

If you can, book your flight as soon as you can, if the price is good to you, AND tickets are either refundable or such!

I live in a tourist area of the Ozarks and have noticed the usual Memorial Day activity with people everywhere boating, swimming and eating out. When it boils down to it, herd immunity is the end result. It will run its course no matter what we do and its just a matter of time.

Herd immunity? No. Not with this virus. It just needs to burn out. Everyone who can get infected needs to be infected. All of them. No more fuel to burn. The virus will have nowhere left to go. But it has to be done hard and fast. You can't drag it out long enough that people can be reinfected, you can't drag it out long enough that people starve.

Not possible.

Note, I知 not agreeing nor disagreeing with the premise.

Simply not possible to do, IMHO.

By now I'd think it was pretty effin' obvious there's way more going on than a damned virus. Here's what I know.

According to the CDC (yeah I know but its better than listening to CNN) the entire dang Country peaked and declined during Apr/May. Yesterday Dr Birx presented what they had so far. Lots of pretty pie charts, graphs and struff. Color, even. Well guess what, all those whiny States Like Michigan, Washington, Oregon and others that are even now lengthening their restrictions, ALL of those are "in the green". And have been for a while.

This I know from the numbers; social distancing, proper sanitation, PPE, THOSE WORK. By the numbers, comparing the data of States that never closed, those that did a little bit and those that went full-goose bozo with it, those restrictions did little to limit or contain the epidemic.

"Flatten the curve." "We have to shut it down". Remember that? They were specific then, too. It simply spread the infections over a longer period of time, the main aim was to keep hospitals from being overloaded. And it worked. What it DOESN'T DO is limit the spread or make the virus go away. That's going to happen either way. In fact. From the numbers I see from places I trust, I don't see that those "lockdowns" really did much at all. (said that already, didn't I? Might be important...) But I was willing to play along because all that was was a temporary inconvenience.

Obviously there are places in the Country with different issues, different problems. NY. DC/MD/NoVA, Minnesota, Wisconsin. Chicago. Each had specific problems to that area and the short version is a one-size solution directed by Washington wasn't going to work for everybody. Which is why they left it up to the States.

This has morphed into something political. In some States it always was that. Those decisions were POLITICAL, designed to dump the economy and win an election. They are still doing that and they will continue. They will bring this back, either actual or contrived, it doesn't really matter. You know what's coming in five or six months. If States can restrict civil rights, ANY of them simply by declaring "something-something emergency" then you don't have any damned rights. At all.

Its pretty obvious how many little tinpot dictators were out there just waiting. Now we ALL can see what they are and how far they will go to gain power. Guess all that prepper fiction wasn't bull**** after all, huh?
Just needed to be posted again. Somewhere the idea of flattening the curve was morphed into stopping the virus. We can't stop it. All we can do is live with it.

Lackadaisical* folks IMO, are all those folks going round touting 的知 fit, I知 young, I知 healthy, and I don稚 care if I get this Wuhan thing. So they don稚 do anything hardly to mitigate getting it, some of whom intentionally continue with behaviors which put the rest of us at risk. House parties & such as oversimplified examples, on towards multiple shopping trips a day, daily, WITHOUT even washing hands...
Perhaps those you consider lackadaisical actually looked at the possible situation and all possible responses to it and decided how they were going to respond. At one end they could have to go through a complete decon before entering their houses and at the other end they simply go about their daily business as usual. With a less than 1% mortality rate many are deciding to just go about their daily actives without many changes.

Uh just so you know, "burning out" is exactly herd immunity.

CDC lowers mortality rate to 0.4%

Still not great, but not the world ending plague that caused a global shutdown either.
