Default Mossberg 500 XS front sight, worth it?

Advertise Here

I just picked up a Mossberg 500A1, 20" barrel, 7 shot tube, heat shield, etc. I couldn't be happier with the feel, look and reliability of the gun. It will be my dedicated home defense shotgun. I'm planning on putting a light on it, but I'm curious if anyone here has used one of the XS big dot tritium sights on a shotgun? It's not a bad price, and looks like it's very easy to put on, but I'm curious if it's worth it as far as faster time on target, and more accurate shooting with slugs?

If its too dark to see the sight, it might be too dark to see the target. I put a mid bead in the rib of my pistol gripped 20" barreled 870 Express to serve as the rear sight for my 1 1/4 cast Lyman sabot slugs. I use a screw in choke marked skeet #2, 3# coffee cans at 90 yards are usually toast. I don't see any harm with changing your sight - be sure and test it with a few boxes of ammo to make sure its on good.
