Hi all,

I just found this site today and joined. I can't wait to learn from everyone.

Well, I'm stuck out here on the island of Maui. We are constantly faced with the possibility of having all our nice amenities cut off from us, since everything is shipped out here by boat. If the Longshoreman go on strike, we'll be hurting in a few days. Most of us here tend to stock up on essentials to last a month or more.

My background is as follows: I served many years in the US army in the infantry, so I'm confident in my bushcraft. I am currently a detective in the police department here (glad this isn't one of those anarchist sites), but was a sniper on the SWAT team for a bit. I am a firm proponent of the Second Amendment.

I am into traditional archery and just starting to use muzzle loaders. I am attempting to use only wood, metal, leather, stone in my gear. It is difficult to avoid plastic unless you make your own stuff.

Welcome to the community Ken. Always glad to see more informed people like yourself in law enforcement. Don't worry, we aren't cop bashers (most of us do have the occasionally ****ed off "why didn't I just get a warning") but other then that glad to have you.

Welcome,

You have the best and worst of things.
best; Tropical paradise: fruit, fish, veggies, great weather.
worst; Over populated island: not much resupply, limited but plentiful natural resources.

I am interested to see what direction your planning takes you.

Welcome Ken. Glad you find us and, as 5.7 mm say, i am curious about the direction of your preparations. I know Hawaii is a tropical paradise, but the last days fires, the continous vulcanic activities and the strategic military role make from Hawaii somehow a dangerous place

Welcome aboard. I was stationed there for awhile and don't see how you do it. Overcrowded to say the least.

Thanks for the welcome!

Hawaii is unique in that there is no place to go if something happens. I can't take off into the woods and I'm about 1500 miles from the mainland. Most of the ocean is fished out and there is absolutely no way the large population can survive with the limited resources available here.

I live here, because my wife loves it......It's nice, but way too expensive! A normal house for a family costs about 600-700k. Most of us make it paycheck to paycheck.

I think my main plan if something happens is to leave. I would return to the mainland where I would have some options.

Again, thanks for the welcome and I'm glad to be here.

Ken

Ken,
Do you have a boat who may pass those 1500 miles to mainland?

Haha. I got rid of the boat. I'm at the mercy of commercial airlines! The wife is the typical oblivious American.....what could happen, right? So we stay.........
