I am sure they will be a hit in the middle east..

Personally,
I think the Bangles would have been a better choice.

The B-52 bombing in the South never faced any SAMs. But there's a good description of the ground experience in Jim Webb's novel Fields of Fire. He would know, he was there, right on the ground.
I stand corrected on the latest SAMs that were supplied to the VC. Still a fearsome platform just to bring into the ME. Like a ghost from the past that rears its ugly head.

Any AC130s still in service?

The Air Force classifies them as a priority B resource, unless there are nukes aboard, which would bump them up to priority A. They will be closely guarded while parked on the airfield. It's the S-300 and S-400 air defenses that the USAF needs to be concerned about.

I got to go inside one back in the 80's when I was in the USAF, very cramped inside. Whole plane is nothing but gas tanks and payload storage.

I was thinking of short range missiles or even mortar attacks. The VC did us real dirty a couple of times with mortars.

Yeah, they did attack Tan Son Nhut a few times, but the Buffs were stationed mostly in Thailand back then, with Guam as the backup.
