Default Dismayed at Lack of Proof of God's Existence

Advertise Here

I recently watched a Steve Carlin skit where he said if God really cared about you, he'd give you a house and food. In another skit he said this all powerful being always seems to need money. I realize God works "in here" more than "out there" but still the point is well made.

Thinking about this, I confess that I am dismayed at the lack of objective proof of God's existence. I've even heard multiple minister's admit there is not even indirect evidence of a statistical difference among practicing Christians in such areas as divorce, happiness, satisfaction in marriage, etc. However, I have read there are differences between atheists and theists, e.g., mental health, happiness, proclivity to mass murder. See recent Las Vegas massacre.

Am I wrong? Is there objective evidence - even indirect evidence such as benefits to believers - that I do not know about? I believe Cabinet Maker made a comment in another thread about essentially a Biblical prediction of calamities that will befall believers because of their faith. Maybe I do not want to consider this evidence for I know it is not a compelling 'selling feature' to non-believers, i.e., the Joel Osteen approach.

Ooodles of direct evidence before and at the time of Jesus, and of course, at the time of his resurrection.

Still people didn't believe.

No amount of direct evidence will change some hearts.

The problem with that is that we live in a materialistic society that WANTS THINGS they do no need, God Provides what we we need not what we want. Looking back there have been many instances of such in my life, from getting an unexpected check in the mail when I was in dire straits, or the many time I took a different route for no explainable reason just to find someone who needed help changing a flat or with a jump start in the middle of nowhere. Or that little voice that we all get to go check on a depressed friend or that a friend has gotten to check on us. That is GOD giving us what we need.

God's existence and benefits to believers are different philosophical cosmos.

Our conscience is the first evidence, as is not "in" the brain. The matrix we live in is another.

Selfless love, compassion, are not of this world, but the spiritual kingdom's.

if you could prove Gods existence he would have to show up.
if he didn't, why not? is he afraid of something?
if he did, you could command Him. show proof, present God, pass the hat, next town. God as a trained performer?
If you can control Him, He is by definition, not The One True capitol G God.

ergo, it is impossible to prove the existence of God.

You and all of mankind that ever was that are not or were not believers. Once you truly believe there is no shaking it loose though. You will always be a true believer.

There is no empirical evidence to prove, nor disprove the existence of G-d. His existence is taken on faith.

Regarding the statement that "He would have to show up" - well, He did show up and they promptly crucified Him. If He showed up today they would do the same.

I'm not so sure about the proof of God, but there is an abundance of proof of the Devil.

The word faith has been used several times. Let's clarify how it applies to the question.

Faith: firm belief in something for which there is no proof.

If you have faith you do not need proof.

I used to wonder about proof of a creator/God and then one day it occurred to me, the proof was all round me. For me it was the answer to the question (where did everything come from). If you look at the stars, the material of our earth and the sun, then you have to ask how did it all get here. Also, who set the rules of physics, the speed of light, the makeup of atoms for example. This cannot all be an accident. There has to be some controlling force, some magnificent thought, some brilliant direction that we cannot understand. Then I concentrated on the idea of infinity and all that it implies. By then it all seemed so logical and so clear that there was a planned order to our universe and that we can never completely understand it all but we can accept what we see.

One piece of objective evidence that I actually had to Google because I didn't believe it at first, was that 7th Day Adventists live, on average, 10 years longer than the rest of us (in the US). They live a lifestyle truly different than most of us, and the benefits show!

I think one the problems in trying to understand God's existence (if you are not a person of faith) is the concept of God one has.

Applying our very limited human paradigms to something as complex and deep as GOD will always be a futile exercise. Even trying to understand the nature of infinity, dualism (and the real nature of good and evil) beyond dogmas and established paradigms is an herculean challenge. Time's nature itself is something... I mean, who knows. For real? nobody knows what it is!

Now imagine a regular guy, Greg.
Imagine that for whatever reason, one of the 200 million trillion of Greg's mitochondrias becomes self-consciousness. Let's call it X.
X has very limited ways to know about it's own cosmos, the cell. Doesn't have eyes or ears... it's chemical senses are all it has.

Now, try to explain X about Greg... through Greg's imput organs (his five methods of perception) what is he, tell it about his life, where he lives, his hobbies, etc. Impossible.

Of course X may feel is part of something bigger ("what's this adenosine triphosphate for? lol"), but in reality X's ways of knowing about Greg are next to impossible. How could a single mitochondria understand or even know about the brain? about personality, about Greg's desires, fears, or hobbies? Heck, even about X's rol in the big picture?

Can X get a "clue" here and there? maybe... the whole truth? never.

Maybe after a lot of time, years, X will start philosophizing... and perhaps one day something, a deep feeling, starts growing in it's nucleus. X call it: Faith.

The first sin against GOD was pride. Lucifer thought he was better. Now here we are with Lucifer prowling like a lion. U break up the family, u can destroy nations. Case in point, USA. We can't even watch the NFL anymore. I would suggest that sports have become the new church (idolatry). Don't loose sight of GOD and walk daily with YESHUA and the HOLY SPIRIT. They are ONE!!!

Never really thought about it this way but men ultimately spend there lives and sell there souls looking for gold in the end. According to the bible, it's just barely good enough for pavement in heaven. Chew on that for awhile!!!
