Yes and when I get those annual letters from social security they tell me that if I get disabled today, I will get MORE per month than if I work till I am 62, even more than if I work till I am 67.

it's true..the system is full of slackers all wanting to suck at the Gov. teat.

I personally know of a family in Florida that does this...three out of five family members are on SS disability.Everytime I stop by..they're all hanging around the house, getting high & nobody seems unable to work as I can see.

..it's got so bad the SS disability claims have spread to newer & younger generations.

This isn't the America I grew up in.

SS was originally meant as a retirement supplement not an entitlement benefit for the masses. I know some people in their teens get more SS then I do after I worked and paid into it for 45 years.

1. We gotta stop paying out to people who never contributed.
2. We gotta stop paying out to people who are self inflicted disabled (dope & booze) and dont contribute.

The image supplied in the link does begin to paint a picture I hadn't realized was the case. I am beginning to FULLY understand what is going on with all the SSDI abuse and fraud now. I should have known...

Remember when you could retire at 55 and collect your full benefits? It seems they keep raising the retirement age up and up. Now it's 67??? You know they keep raising the age because they hope workers will die of old age before they can ever collect their benefits. And by the time we all retire there won't be SS any longer. It will be nice to see the class action law suit when that happens. Everyone will want to sue for their contributions plus interest and i will be one of the first ones to sign up.

If "ONLY" the people would paid into it collected benifits at 55-60-65 the sytem would be fine.

Unfortunately, the lefties saw this giant pool of cash and saw an opportunity to buy votes.....you know, fight for the poor, help the needy and other bogus slogans to bribe people at the ballot box.

SS could be saved if they kicked off the dead weight idiots!

SS will go broke simply due to numbers. That is the baby boomers who have been supporting the system lack the number of new workers paying in to support them.

I'm certainly not counting on receiving one cent.

I agree! IMHO, if one doesn't pay in to the system, they should get zero back. Period. It shouldn't be designed as an entitlement system, as entitlements are destined to become a burden on the taxpayers.

its broke, no doubt.
what I really hate is the ones who are blaming it on the baby boomers. Like its our fault that we actually lived long enough to expect it.

Entitlement, hell yeah, I paid good money into it and I want my money back.

Kick the slackers out. they put nothing into it

I'm a boomer myself and I certainly did not seek to place blame!

It's simple numbers. A small working population CANNOT support a large retiring population; as simple as that.

A bulge in the population followed by smaller numbers is the deal breaker for SS.

Mom put plenty into the SS system.

But she spent just a few too many years as a homemaker to qualify for SS disability when she developed her terminal illness (I think she lacked 5 credits)

Oh well, guess we can say she never took a dime...she was eligible but died too young to receive benefits based on her ex-husband's SS earnings.

I like your thought process here.

While I agree on the no self inflicted disability idea I don't think that will fly.

Your first point, "Membership has it's Benefits." We should all run with that. SS is an earned benefit. It should be discontinued for all others.

Why is SS broke? LBJ, with the support of the then CONGRESS, "GREAT SOCIETY/WAR ON POVERTY" POGROMS...making certain that a specific segment will vote DEMOKRAT for the next 75yrs...(LBJ's own words).

TED KENNEDY mandating licenses to ILLEGALS...then JIMMUH KARTER giving bennies to ILLEGALS for the same reason as above.

WE LET THEM get away with this most obvious RICO VIOLATION...BUT...is it really too late to close this PANDORA'S BOX?
